Can always just leave a large bowl and water out and the cat will be fine, that is what we do.

I used to have two cats and would use food and water feeders ( just gravity based - fills up the tray as the food/water is depleted), and an electric self-cleaning cat box. This was good for short absences. However, since it's a single cat, companionship a couple times a day would be nice.

Maybe for a day, or two at most. But five? I would never leave our cat alone for that long.

Some cats don't drink enough water and require wet food. You can't leave wet food out for 4 days. Cats have a naturally low thirst drive, and are obligate carnivores. If your cat is drinking water, it's because you're dehydrating him with dry food. And unless that dry food is freeze-dried raw, you're also harming kitty's digestive system. Cats cannot efficiently digest plant protein or carbohydrates, and both of those things are added to dry kibble. Grain-free kibble isn't "better" than grain-content kibble. Rather, it is "less bad." They're both bad choices for a cat's diet and were invented to convenience the owner. A dry-food diet is the #1 cause of kidney disease in cats.

Also, you need at least 2 litter boxes for one cat, if you're going to leave him alone for 4 days.

Lastly, leaving a bowl of water out for 4 days and expecting kitty to say "oh yeah, nom nom bacteria-loaded water that contains three days of my own spit and bloated stale kibble crumbs" is not any cat's idea of a reasonable provision.

Domesticated cats are at the mercy of their owners. What's convenient for you, can be harmful to your pet. Which do you value more? Your pet, or your convenience? If convenience is more important to you, then please do your pet a favor and find it a home that will value it more. If you value the cat more than convenience, then treat it better.

We have a automatic litter. A automatic feeder, that distributes up to 4 meals of dry food a day, holds enough food for 10 days. Water is a fountain with filtration system, that will hold enough for 10 days. We have cameras that she can activate, and we can see her and talk to her.

That said, we have a true cat that can go days without acknowledging you even exist, before she finally wants little to some attention. But 2 days is all she will tolerate being alone even if she has ignored you for 5 days.

If your cat requires wet food, there are excellent auto feeders, with sectioned meals, that has ability to keep food cold for 5 days. OP there is a cat crazy club you might contact, that has people who will help with your cat.

Yes, we leave enough food to cover up to a week. If longer we do have someone check to see that everything is good.

We would go away for a week without issue.

Cats have always been fine on dry food, never cans. Litter box is fine for the week. Cats take care of themselves. All is good with us.
