Default Day 2 of as the pets turn....

Reason number 2 as to why The Villages has mandated the employees to not tell residents about Lost Pets of The Villages.

“Would it be reasonable to entrust a pet to an organization with no formal training in animal care or veterinary medicine”

I offer you this….

On November 8th there was a found Italian Greyhound. Found in The Villages No Collar but bandages around his belly. Lost Pets of The Villages was called out. The bandages were in very old condition.

Kathy Bork fostered this dog. Kathy is a Registered Nurse with an active Ohio License. She tended to the wounds of this dog and named him Bocci.

Lost Pets of The Villages actively searched for the owner while reaching out to the Greyhound Rescue. Carol Belleva with the Greyhound rescue reached out to us and fronted emergency vet visit at Live Oaks within 2 hours of us finding Bocci. The diagnosis was Sarcoma end stages. He was dying.

He died with a name Bocci and not a number…. And in a caring, loving surround. It may not have been his birth name… but he had a name.

HIS NAME WAS BOCCI!!!!

Bocci was friendly and loving. He got along with other dogs and just wanted to be loved. All parties concerned decided to give this dog the best life possible until he died, all the while still looking for the owner. He went into a loving foster with the Italian Greyhound Rescue until he passed. The end of his life was happy, well taken care of and loved.

Contrast that with Isabelle. This is what Isabelle’s owner has to say about what happened. They simply look at her with a blank look. NO emotion.

“ She walked into Sumter County Tax Funded shelter as a stray and was never seen again! She was not sick as stated as an excuse to kill her, you didn't post a picture and made no attempt to find me, her owner! That is Federal Statute! The ONLY thing that is wrong with this story is that Isabelle was killed in 48 hours, not the same day. But what is TRUTH is that NO ATTEMPT was made to find her owner. “

Isabelle's owner has spoken to the Commissioners on numerous occasions and NOT ONCE have they offered an apology for

We may not have “veterinary” experience, but we have some knowledge of how to get to a vet if a pet is in trouble and we have nurses at the ready. Lost Pets of The Villages has NEVER killed a pet for being sick or any other reason! We don’t leave pets for hours without supervision or care. They are in loving homes and cared for.

That being said, we rarely have pets long enough to even put them in a foster. We usually get them back home FAST.

So, I ask again. Who would you feel more confident to have your pet if your pet is found?

Please respond as The Villages watches this site.

I've read your posts and applaud you for your big heart and extraordinary efforts to rehome lost dogs. Based upon only very limited information, I don't see a downside to encouraging your efforts.

Lost Pets in The Villages is a GREAT organization of volunteer people love animals and have huge hearts! They give of their time freely and often look for missing dogs and/or cats just so the pet can be reunited with their owners.
Personally I can not understand why anyone would want to stop this work.
