Default Training

Hi - Actually after much searching we did. There is a company named "Professional Dog Training" in Ocala. The owner/trainer is Letty and her husband is Will. Their e-mail is pdtdogs@aol.com or you can check their website for what they offer. They offered us to come in and observe a sub novice obedience class and we were sold. Our doggie starts on Aug 28th @ 7:00 pm. Good Luck. I hear that they used to train here in the Villages many years ago and I spoke with someone that took their training with very high recommendations.

Possible silly question...what basic skills are you looking for your puppy to learn? Come, sit, stay and the like? Or more general skills, like stay in a bounded area (a yard for example)? Other?

Just curious. I've always trained my own dogs, and am curious what you look for in a trainer.

I met someone at the DeSoto Dog park (near Fenney) and she has used this dog trainer a couple of times in her home and so far really likes her. I have never seen or used this person, but I can give you the information I have on her business card: Tammy Smith. Phone: 240-298-2555. Lots of credentials. Her website is Dog Training in Your Home in the Villages - Be the Leader of the Pack Hope this helps!

A little off topic, but... one of the functions of a puppy training class, beside those you have mentioned, is to begin the puppy's socialization process with other dogs (puppies) in a controlled environment.

I think socialization is very important, and the sooner it is started the better. We've been in a class where one of the puppies was extremely shy and hid under the chair. The trainer was able to bring her out of her shell and show the owners what to do with her. She finally became comfortable with the other puppies by the end of the classes.

Don't use Jill McWilly advertised in the Daily Sun ; we used her and she is awful and charges $1500 for 6 wks; a total ripoff!

to TOTV.
I bet this group would have some dandy recommendations for dog trainers.
