I have never heard of anyone fined here due to their having excessive pets, but I have heard of people who have been fined due to having children living with them under the age of 19 for more than the allowed amount of time per year.
For what that's worth. A nickel.:icon_wink: |

I live in CDD 1 and our covenants say 1 dog. But I have never heard of someone being so petty as to report someone that has 2 dogs and minds their own business. Wow...did you draw the short straw when they were handing out neighbors! This puts you in an impossible situation.

As for an inspection, I wouldn’t let ANYONE in my home without a warrant. And if they approach the front door they’re trespassing. I do like the pet sitting idea. :clap2: |
How would they know?
She was allowed to move here with two dogs, she still just has two dogs. Seems it would be her word against his about one passing on, esp. if the replacement is the same breed.Too bad people can’t just live and let live, sheesh. There are much bigger battles to be concerned with.

I agree right thing to do

We came here with two pets. After one died, we decided to foster dogs. One at a time. But even though we were within the designated number of pets at the time we bought, we were told by our realtor that we could come with whatever we had. We just had to whittle down to two as they passed away.
Why would the TV sales agents tell you something about pets that could come back to bite you? I think this lady, or spring_chicken should point that out to deed compliance. One arm of TV can't be telling you something that another arm of TV won't uphold. |
Hearsay
I have NEVER ever heard of anything on this forum that made me believe anyone had to give up a pet.
To the OP, please tell us what happened when you called and asked about the number of pets? I have to believe that your widowed neighbor will never have to give up a dog or pay a fine. |
It's common that a Sales Rep will tell people that you can move here with three dogs; but when a dog dies, you can't replace it.
Thousands of people have been told that - it's an "unwritten" deed restriction of sorts. Quote:

Does anyone know what district she's in? OP????? She's your neighbor. What district is she in? |
*yawn* just follow the rules. Doesn't matter how sweet someone is.

There's something squirrely about this whole thing. Why won't OP state what district it is? |

CDD 1 deed restrictions allow for two pets. So your neighbor is not out of compliance. Someone is trying to harass.

There are a few villages that only allow one dog per home, very few. |
They do not. A copy of the restrictions was mailed with the letter and I just looked it up online. See section 2.22

It still goes back to the fact that she moved in with two dogs, and neither one of them has died and been replaced. She should be okay.

I don't think any harm will come to your friend or her furry friends. I think she is worried for no good reason. You would be best to call and talk to them saying what you told us.

Hopefully the mods will just shut this thread down. Thank you to all who were truly helpful. I had no idea that a simple post of facts could go so far into debating, doubting, and accusing over which areas allow how many dogs.
The facts were in the first post. Again, thanks to those who wanted to help and not be accusing or doubting. I would post the letter, but some would still go there. I'm glad my friend doesn't have to see this. She would be truly dismayed. |
My point again is that if you want to protect your friend, call them and talk to them. I think you will find them to be supportive and helpful.
I know of several people who have three dogs and there has been no problem. As Chi town pointed out. We had three cats when we moved here. |
This is interesting to me in light of the discussion of the young child living in Country Club Hills. The online news had an interview with CDD supervisers, who said they have no legal standing to get involved with internal deed restrictions, only with external ones. Wouldn't the number of pets be an internal restriction?
