Default Dog Virus

My wife is reading on a village neighborhood site about a dangerous virus and a plea to have your dog vaccinated. Also, the suggestion to stay away from the Dog Parks unless your dog has been vaccinated. Is this true?

There is a very contagious dog flu that is going around. Two vaccines are needed 3 weeks apart.

There is a dog flu virus that is circulating. I read that it may have started at a dog show in Miami. I plan on having our dog vaccinated against it, as we don't want to take chances with her health. Seems that it is similar to "people" flu virus, in that exposure to the virus is easier in crowds, so dog parks would be a good (?) source.

We had our dog vaccinated for the flu. With so many dogs in TV, I rather be safe than sorry and keep our furbaby healthy.

Additionally, local groomers require proof of vaccination prior to grooming your dog

Is that for the flu or for other things? Doggie Doo Run Run for instance requires documentation when you and your dog become visitors of DDRR of proof of rabies and bordetella shots.

The kennels are not taking dogs who have not had the flu vaccine.

Our Bailey received his first of two shots. I don't believe there have been any confirmed cases here in the villages gut we didn't want to take the chance and at some point will need to be boarded next time we travel.

This is in addition to the bordetella. In late May, when our dog was due to have his annual check-up, Dr. Porter said that he didn't feel there was a need for the flu vaccine, but by the time our dog had his second bordtella shot, Dr. Porter had changed his mind about the flu vaccine and advised us to have it. The dog frequents the dog parks and was being been boarded for trips, so we felt it was safer to get the vaccine.

I called my vet and was told if we were having our dog groomed (yes) going to a dog park (no) or boarding him (yes), we should have him vaccinated. They also said it was coming up into this area. Better safe than sorry. Our guy is almost 10 and might not be as able to fight the flu as easily as a younger dog. Apparently the vaccination will not prevent dogs from getting the flu, but if they do it would be a much milder case.

Booster shot coming up.

My daughter moved to Virginia 4 years ago. It was required by the state that her dog have the dog flu vaccine. Never heard of it in Ohio.

I called Buffalo Ridge to ask about getting the flu vaccine for our dogs.
I asked of they had the vaccine and was told they did, so obviously, I wanted to bring my dogs in for the shot.
I was told that it was "weeks" before I could bring them in.
Just as a point of interest, we have been clients of Buffalo Ridge for a number of years.
So I asked them if a vet tech could administer the shots and they said yes.
However, I would still have to wait a number of weeks until I could bring them in. Huh???

Well, guess what? Bye, bye Buffalo Ridge!

My dogs have had the flu shot. Better than them being sick.
