Default My nutty cat

My cat (age 18) has an obsession she jumps n the bathroom sink and wants me to turn the water on a trickle so that it runs over her head. She follows everyone who goes into the bathroom. Some people comply, others don’t.
Any thoughts?

Ours follow us into the bathroom to be petted and scratched, she does the same thing at night, then sleeps BETWEEN us, in HER space! Now to answer the original question, if you want to stop this behavior, just ignore her when she jumps on the sink, eventually she will stop. If you are asking why she wants her head wet, no idea.

If this is new behavior, it may be ear mites.

Our rescue cat (age 10) is obsessed with water too. He much prefers moving water to what's in his bowl. In speaking with the vet and others, I don't think this behavior is all that unusual. Our cat likes a bowl filled with water from the faucet (while he watches you fill). He then scoops the water with his paw and licks the water off his paw. Or course, you had better have a towel under the bowl since the counter can get pretty wet. CJ (cat's name) goes insane when he sees water. We have had him checked for diabetes. Negative. He has had extensive dental work but we don't think there's any correlation. He has a "pet fountain" water bowl down at all times. We know CJ needs water and are willing to get it to him whatever it takes.

Older cats start to lose their kidney function and are constantly thirsty, dehydrated...the person who posted the photo of the cat watering station might work, might not, but it might be worth a try...

Our cat, Scooter, also follows me into the bathroom first thing in the morning for petting then proceeds to jump up on the bathroom counter likes me to leave the water running while I brush my teeth. This is his time to wash as well, paws, face etc. when I’m done he’s done. Then we proceed to the kitchen for a fresh bowl of water and yes he watches and waits. Then he wants for his “wet” food. His dry food is out all of the time. I’m very well trained! He’s 20.

We just lost our little kitty girl to cancer at age 15. She always loved water! We had 4 water bowls in various rooms of the house, plus on the floor of my walk-in shower. And, the water had to be fresh. Katie watched as we filled (and refilled) her "water bars" each time she desired a drink. No kidney issues, no diabetes, just a quirky little gal. Have fun and indulge your baby girl. You will miss her when she's gone....

our cat does the same. She was getting inner ear infections and I think as she turned her head to drink it got into her ear. I suspected something like swimmers ear. We stopped doing it and she"fingers crossed" has not had issues for awhile. She still likes the attention and a scratch but we replaced faucet with a bowl of water

_Our cat, 4 or 5 yr old, jumps onto the sink and wants the water onto a trickle so he can drink from the faucet. As with everything with cats, he will lose interest soon.

We lost our rescue kitty Ed to cancer this past March. Yes he followed us to the bathroom. He loved to play footsie under the sliding door to the commode room and when he thought no one was around we would catch him admiring himself in the mirror. Even at 14 he loved to play with ice cubes in his pet fountain. We surely miss his little quirks and antics. My advice, just go with the “flow.”
