Default NEEDED: Rescue Dog Transporters and Rescue Foster Parents

I'm going to tell you about a recent rescue of three almost feral dachshund mixes below, but first I want to ask....

Would you or maybe a neighbor be interested in driving a leg of a transport so a dog can get from Point A to Point B? Perhaps you would like to be that bridge between being homeless and a home by being a foster parent. Read below about a rescue that Low Rider Dachshund Rescue of Florida pulled off with a lot of great help. If you would like to apply to be a member of this great team, please fill out an application a Volunteer - Low Rider Dachshund Rescue of Florida. Transporting is just once in awhile when a dog needs transported in our area.

How about a great rescue story to start out your week on this Memorial Day? It's a long one, but we think it's worth the read! Why? Because 3 beautiful dachshund mix boys at the young age of just 17 months would not be with us today had we not pulled this together.

***These dogs are borderline feral...they all answered to "puppy" as their names. They need a LOT of socialization and training and will not be ready for adoption any time soon. We look forward to introducing you to them soon with much more appropriate names.***

We had quite the weekend...once again, with a LOT of help we are thrilled to report these boys are SAFE! This is the story of a rescue covering 490 miles of Florida, over a 7 hour trip, pulled off over 2 days and made possible by 13 valuable volunteers brought together because of their passion for rescue.

Thursday afternoon we received a call from EVELYN at Bay County Animal Control Facilty that there were 3 dachshund mixes being surrendered due to a hardship case. She asked if we could please take them because these 3 had no chance of adoption from the facility due to a mandated order currently in effect at this time to euthanize all owner surrenders admitted to the facility. Of course we said "YES!" (Please no negative comments regarding the hardship of the owner or the governing of the animal control facility. This is about the dogs.)

Patti Papiano and I got busy arranging for transport and foster homes for the 3 boys. By Friday afternoon the plan was in place. A volunteer that works with Bay County Animal Control joined us--thank you Shari Hamilton (LOVE when we get to work with other organizations!) and Lisa Jackson Jones of The GRACE Project - Animal Rescue picked up the boys and started the journey.

From there, all too familiar faces and names picked up the ball and ran with it. Judy Delbene with Save Our Cocker Spaniels - SOCKS was once again in the right place at the right time and Jennifer Kingswell provided a comfortable Bed and Breakfast for the boys overnight stay in Gainesville on Saturday night. Sunday morning the boys were on the road headed South again with a great lady who has put MANY a mile on her truck for the sake of the babies, Mary Anne Lee.

Two more volunteers met her in Dade City, one being foster mom for one of the boys Karen Stumpff and new foster moms Shelly Wagers and Stacey Turmel to continue the journey. Next stop Ellenton where Michelle Thomas took over traveling down to Bradenton and then Venice with the two precious cargo. Waiting in Bradenton was foster mom of the second boy, Brenda Morris, anxiously waiting to put eyes on her baby.

Finally....the last leg...Michelle meets the rescue's President in Venice and she heads to Punta Gorda to meet up with the third foster mom who drove up from Fort Myers, Cheryl Zwingman-Bagley.

All done on a holiday weekend---because rescue doesn't take holidays...thank you for reading it all.

You could be a member of this great team. And more importantly you could be helping save some little dogs from certain death. Volunteer - Low Rider Dachshund Rescue of Florida
