Don't know much about the flu vaccination. Wondering if it is necessary to get the shot this time of year if you are taking your dog to the dog parks here in The Villages.
If so, any recommendations on where to go to get a shot and approx cost. Thanks in advance |

I had it given to my dog and didn't find it to be any more expensive than other vaccinations. I don't take him to dog parks but he is in contact with other dogs and also is a real sniffer. He did just fine with it - no side effects.

Ours had her shots (2 were required) last fall, at Buffalo Ridge. We occasionally board our dog and take her to the dog park, so wanted to ensure her health. I don’t know if time of year matters; I think it is exposure to other dogs and possibly where other dogs have been. Check with your vet to make sure.

Especially since there are dogs from other parts of the country coming down to TV for the winter, I would have it done. The flu actually did reach Florida this past year. We had our golden vaccinated. Then we got a foster golden mix whose rescue org. would not okay her to be vaccinated. Both dogs got a cough, even though the foster was on the same antibiotics used to treat K9 flu at the time.
Because our dog was vaccinated, he only reacted for a couple of days and was then fine. The vet thought it was probably mild flu because the foster had had a kennel cough vaccination, and our golden had his vacs updated a month or so before.
