Default You asked what you could do....

Mark your calendars!

The Sumter County Board of County Commissioners Meeting is Tuesday the 26th. This meeting will be held at Colony Cottage at 5:00 PM in The Villages. The address is. 510 Colony Blvd. The Villages, FL

The Commissioners have determined that all they need to do is show a high release rate and we should all be happy.

Here is the problem. How do we know what the numbers REALLY are? Yes! We admit there have been changes. But there are still VERY disturbing issues with our County Animal Control. As Commissioner Gilpin has pointed out several times… It IS NOT a “shelter”.

We already know they can and have changed the numbers to be what they want them to be. How do we know what the live release rate is? No volunteers are allowed in the facility! Why not? Oh…. Yes… “Liability”. That is the catch word for anything and everything they want to do.

Do they have no liability with their employees?

Volunteers don’t depend on a paycheck and are more likely to tell if something is amiss. Not so much with employees.

And… to complicate matters… Riddle me this….

Why is it The Villages employees are mandated to not tell anyone about Lost Pets of The Villages? They can’t give anyone our name of our phone number if someone finds a pet or even loses a pet. And in fact, we have been told several times people were told to call Animal Control or simply put the pet back out on the street! Yes… you read that right. Put the pet back out on the street!

If they DO tell anyone about Lost Pets of The Villages, they can lose their job. As I said… An employee needs their paycheck.

However, when we have a pet that belongs to a resident, they will not give us the number of the resident but instead, have to hang up and call the resident and give them OUR number. Huh??? Wait… They can’t give someone our number to help them find a pet or to find the owners, but they can only give them our number when WE have their pet?

Why is the District Manager, Richard Baier, making it so hard for residents to get their pets back home? Does he want them killed? He used to work for the county… He trying to “cull the population of animals” in The Villages?
