Default YOUR Humane Society SPCA Responds to 17 Puppies & Dogs in Crisis

(Lake Panasoffkee, FL 5/31/2019)

Friday, May 31st, YOUR Humane Society SPCA received a desperate plea for help from a family unable to get any local shelters or rescues to assist them as they stated they were all full. "We were too, but we still responded knowing this was a dire situation for the animals and the family who was experiencing serious medical crises. They knew they needed to surrender them to us immediately being they could not care for them adequately" noted Kennel Manager Carol Legrand.

Legrand, the shelter's manager responsible for animal intakes, added "our great team of staff and volunteers immediately went into 'rescue mode' and returned to our campus with 17 dogs, 12 of which were puppies and 7 of those were orphans. They were flea infested and filthy, with the pups seeming quite weak, likely anemic from a parasite load and poor nutrition. Our team began with baths all around, then hand plucked all those last resilient fleas while drying everyone off, then served up some great meals. All the dogs and puppies were wiped out from their adventure-filled day and soon fell asleep knowing their lives just got A WHOLE LOT BETTER!"

But YOUR Humane Society SPCA knows that 17 more lives saved will require help from their community. Their medical care (de-worming, spaying/neutering, vaccinations), food, sheltering and more will be needed and they have barely begun with "puppy season" yet. They need your help to give these and the many other precious animals healthy happy lives.

Some have been adopted by people who were visiting our shelter and met them when they cleared our quarantine and some have not yet become available as they were too young when they arrived. Sometimes we don't even get a chance to post them on our website as people adopt them when at our shelter.
If you're interested in any, we suggest either calling our shelter office at 352-793-9117 to see which from that intake are/will be be ready or come by for a visit! We're at 994 CR 529A, Lake Panasoffkee, FL 33538. We're open daily except Sunday.
Thank you for your interest!
