Here is more information about healthy eating:
I thought I would let those who may be interested know that there will be a course about how food combinations and eating affect health and skin at the Life Long Learning College. Norma Jean has spoken around the Villages and will be personally following those in the program toward their goals. Many of us continue to eat out and the course explains how that can be done while still incorporating the above important guidelines that result in a healthier lifestyle. Since I have experienced the benefits of this program, including weight loss, I thought I would pass on the info for this class.
It begins in a week and the class registration is 2519.101..for times and dates.
The college number is 352 753-3035.
NormaJean is a great source of information and can advise you with more details.
I also found this story on CNN's site. Say's a lot about the effect of food on skin. Here is a link.

Hi, quirky, :) I'm still VPL. :ho:
If this is about the blood type diet, I have a couple of books on this subject and tried it for a while. My blood is type O and I'm supposed to be a meat eater, but now I'm a vegan/vegetarian, depending on what day it is.
I have found, through experimenting with both meat and non-meat diets that I feel about the same either way. And my weight stayed the same too. I was at my ideal weight with both diets.
The only thing that changed for the better with veganism was some of my numbers like cholesterol. I had good cholesterol with the meat diet but it got even better when I switched over to veganism. And I must say that I enjoy veganism/vegetarianism better.
Sometime after I started the blood type diet I discovered the book, "The China Study" and I found it very compelling. It recommends veganism for the purpose of preventing cancer and almost all other degenerative diseases.

a must watch documentary (my opinion) available on Amazon prime and other video sites.
The perfect human diet.
Simple and easy to watch. I lost 25lbs and cut my LDL and other numbers by half all by applying what they said. Ate plenty of food and was never hungry.

This lecture is not about blood type eating. It about food combinations that work, like association foods that you might eat In a restaurant.
The information provided makes you aware on the ramifications of importance of the correct combinations to eat.

There's some good nutrition information going around and some not-so-good information going around. I went to a lecture a few weeks ago that was given by a dietitian and it was geared toward better control of calories and weight but was not the best nutritional advice for promoting good health.
The advice (before Christmas) was like this: Instead of having a piece of pecan pie, have a piece of pumpkin pie, because pumpkin pie has a lot less calories than pecan pie. It was mostly about making these types of choices while never saying that any food is "bad".
Several years ago, I went to a free lecture at the Wellness Center by a dietitian who worked for a supermarket chain. Of course she didn't say who she worked for but I knew that this supermarket chain had hired about 4 or 5 dietitians who made themselves available to give "free" lectures (free to the public). And of course they would never say that any food is bad as long as it was being sold by their employer.
For example, I asked her if things like soda, candy or pastry are bad for one's health. And she would not say "yes" or "no". She would only say that you can have some as long as you fit it into your daily calorie allotment.
This is not teaching good nutrition, in my opinion. Just because someone can lose some weight, or maintain their weight, doesn't mean they are practicing good nutrition.
I would call it "nutrition malpractice".

jaringg, Thanks for posting this. Can you give us an example of a meal suggestion?
I agree with Villages PL regarding just because one loses weight, doesn't make it actually healthy. Skin improving is a step in the right direction, for sure, so there must be some truly good stuff included.
However, if she suggests white foods or bad fats, I would not be inclined to join the class. I will call the school today, but still thought an example of a meal might help us all determine if it's a good fit for ourselves.
Thanks again.

NormaJean does not suggest a diet, she aims to show everybody what to eat and how, what time and when.
If you would like a sample of her thinking. Take a look at this link.

If she follows that line of thinking (Forks Over Knives), then that's a different story. I have been eating that type of diet since about 2006 and I believe it's a good lifestyle/diet.

Perusing the health thread and your post about NormaJean, I`m glad to hear you have enjoyed some of the benefits of NormaJean`s teachings.
She is recognized for her unique approach to skin health and care by teaching from a whole body perspective. Our outward appearance is a direct reflection of our level of health and rate of aging internally.
She enlightens people through her course of study not just by bringing attention to foods that tend to be of best benefit to human blood and Geno-types, but also combinations of foods that are of greatest benefit to overall health and ultimately beauty.
Another great attribute about NormaJean besides the fact that she really could pass for 20 years younger than her real age is that she also does not believe in absolutes. She presents based upon ongoing expert research, long time experience, and can provide individualized attention on a consultation basis.
She really is a walking/talking example of her level of knowledge and is highly respected in her field.

Some of you may not have been able to get to her blog.
In case your interested in learning more about what she is all about, here is a clip from the past.
Where did time go
Well the years have gone by with not a post on my blog for a long time, and that is something I will work on.
I have been through many life changes including the death of a beloved aunt, my pets illness, a diagnosis of Alzheimer's in my Father, and as they say...life happenings.
So, with that in mind I will catch you up with things and then we will get back to why I began this blog, to share what I can about health, nutrition and beauty as we age.
First, as I said above, I watch a father dying of alzheimers and say to those out there who are caring for loved ones with this miserable disease, my heart goes out to you, for this is a disease that truly in my opinion, is worse on those watching it, for it is heartwrenching to see it rob our loved ones of all ability to function.
No wonder the Dr. said that the caretakers often die before the afflicted person. Very hard indeed. More about what I feel about this disease and what those of us can do for ourselves in another post.
Then there was the diagnosis of diabetes in my dearest pet and love, a sweet 7 pound Yorkie dog named Jacob. I have fought this battle with him over a year now, and that means I learned to blood test, take diabetic blood glucose curves, understand fasting numbers and doses of insulin. I know when and how a hypoglycemic incident would present itself and what to do about it.
I also know he will go blind, and it is race now to keep his sugar at the best possible level to stave off that blindness. So, those things along with the attitude of ...not many people find my blog anyway...which I hope someday changes...well those things just kept me from posting.
I promised myself today that will change. I have lots to say about the health, nutrition and aging fields, possibly more now than ever for I like everyone else, am getting up there. More than that fact, is that with the added years come experience, and the observation that what one thinks is right to do or possibly feels right to do, just may be an answer or at least worth the try. Now at 65, feeling great and hoping I stay this way and (have to throw this in here)... KNOWING how to stay this way.... which is indeed a choice we make daily is not always easy, but the other outcome if we make the bad choices is not an option for me. Look around you, and you will see what I mean.
Dis-ease is everywhere. I hope to share much more with you. Till then,
Norma Jean

Here is a copy of another observations
New Diet Guidelines
Here is a link to the new pyramid recommendation for our aging population, specifically those over 70 yrs old.
Notice that there are more foods that contain live digestive enzymes, those being the fruits and vegetables and with good reason. These foods are the antioxidants that contribute to health and contain the nutrients that feed the cells and fuel the body. More importantly these foods are live and enzyme rich. As we age the body's digestive enzymes are depleted and these live foods contain their own enzymes helping to aid in digestion. This is why eating a salad with a meal will often help in the digestive process due to the live enzyme rich greens. "Live" foods, will become the next big push toward healthy eating.
However I feel we need to go one step further as the body is older and the organs of digestion are not working as efficiently as in our youth. Because of this, these foods will have a harder time digesting even when following this new recommendation. Consider the liver is only working to 1/4 of the capacity it once was. In fact some of these organs are diseased themselves, making their job very difficult. The digestive system is responsible for our health and reliant on what we place in it so it can preform as best it can. So beyond following this new pyramid, what can one do to help this entire system preform all its necessary functions for cellular health?
Combine foods that will digest easily.
There are many books about digestion and "foods that fight" each other and I highly recommend reading some of them. Eating like this is not the American way of life because our meals are complex, filled with too many different foods.
Eating foods that are having an easy time digesting allows the digestive organs to easily derive the nutrients from the foods and then get on with the task of repairing THEMSELVES so they can better take care of us. Think of how one feels after a Thanksgiving meal. Those organs are having a terrible time digesting that meal and we feel it as fatigue, bloat and indigestion. And we see it as cellulite and weight gain!
Try it sometime and follow a few of the rules of digestion. I have an 80/20 rule. 80%of the time I do what is right for my health. The other 20% of the time, I break a few rules for it is not what we do 20% that harms us but what we do 80% of the time likely will. One more thing. That 20% time that I break the rules for easy diestion I will take a couple capsules of digestive enzymes.
Eating healthy will not matter if a system sends out putrified, toxic poison into the body due to faulty digestion! Maybe we will hear about this next...they have it half right!
Norma Jean, N.D.
This is the type of information she will be sharing at College of life lng learning next week. Still time to sign up.

She doesn`t suggest a diet because there is no one size fits all recommendation for the best health because everyone is different, yet the basics are still the same. One thing for sure is that she sure knows how to cook and eat well.
Did you see her in the Daily Sun today, at the back of the `Smoothie` section, (01/15/13)?
Great pic and a great recipe too. I`ve had her homemade ice cream. It`s delicious and nutritious! This woman knows how to cook and enjoy what she eats. It`s probably why she is in the College of Life Long Learning too.

For those of you who may be interested Norma Jean is writing her book finally.
Here is a short exert:
( I recently ran into a gentlemen who i had not seen for many months. He knew of my passion for healthy eating. He relayed a story that took him from a scare of cancer to the much better health and 25 pound weight loss he has today. Within only a few months of taking control of his lifestyle, his diet, his health turned around for the better. As we shared information back and forth, he stated to me he did many of the things that i spoke about. I then asked him..WHY, what made him change his old diet and way of eating and drinking. He said..."because I had a scare")
This a sample of an actual happening to NJ
This occurred here in The Villages just recently.

FOOD COMBINATIONS AND BLOOD TYPE DIET'S AFFECT ON WEIGHT, HEALTH AND SKIN
Ever notice what one of us eats another cannot?
This course offers guidance in individual dietary choices and combinations of foods, whether at home or in a restaurant. Inflammation from our diet occurs topically as well as internally. You will learn how to reduce inflammation, the common denominator in today's lifestyle diseases of heart, stroke, diabetes, cancers, and obesity. Doing so, especially as we age, can mean a more youthful lifestyle, healthy weight loss and less chance for lifestyle disease.

I took Norma Jean's second class and it was extremely enlightening. I am now working with her privately to achieve my goals. It is true that she could pass for at least 20 years younger than her chronological age. She practices what she preaches. I signed the survey for her cooking class that she is going to teach at Learning Center (college). I cannot wait for that class.

This is not really a reply but an ongoing story, there does not seem a category for this.
As many of you know, Norma jean, a local Guru. is writing a book which she is collaborating on with many of you.
She sent me a copy of her latest work, and it is a "MUST READ" of what her book is about. The points she makes are so appropriate to many of us living here, I can not wait for the completion of her work.
here is an exert :
Nj says:
Being a caretaker is hard, but watching a family member decline from this miserable dis-ease was so depressing, as time went on, I just did not care what or when I ate. I began to feel fatigued, was putting on weight eating foods wrong for me, yet right for him. We ate together, and I included his beneficial blood type foods which are meats. He always loved his hamburgers and steaks, but for me, having Type A blood they do nothing except cause me digestive problems contributing to weight gain. Soon in no time at all, pain began to radiate down the right leg. I had been through this before, and knew exactly where this was headed. Believe me when I say food, along with lack of exercise began the decline. I had hoped my move to Erie, would encourage my family to follow the healthy ways I had lived for some time now but instead, I went their way in a slow but steady decline in part from the depression of watching what was happening to dad along with the pressures of care taking.
Dad was always a meat and potato lover. I never ate so much meat in my life. At my healthiest, I rarely ate meats, turkey, pork or chicken, which are wrong for my type A blood, and at one point went without any of them for 5 years. During that time I did eat eggs and wild seafood, but none of the above. Now, here I was, not only eating all those types of flesh proteins, I began to eat the baked goods I made for him in an effort to keep him from loosing too much weight. I made an oatmeal cookie with an antioxidant mixture full of heart healthy walnuts and cinnamon with my antioxidant mixture of ground flax seed, help seed, chia seed and NON GMO soy lecithin granules. They were so delicious, but soon, the added meats I was consuming along with the cookies and other baked goods, added to my own weight gain.
