Walls sweating??

OK...here's one I haven't read about yet. Read lots about the whole condensation thing on the windows and sill, but I just realized my concrete walls are sweating...on the outside!! Noticed it in my front lanai today, and thought it was the rain, but just went out back and felt the walls, and it's happening there too! We don't have the heat on (now), but did (much) earlier because we can't seem to keep the chill out. Anyone experiencing this?

Um.... I thought I was losing my mind today. I went out on the lanai by the summer kitchen and the walls were wet as was the tile on the summer kitchen counter. I looked up at the ceiling to see if we had a leak and we don't. Very strange.....

whew!! I thought the roof, too, this afternoon on the front lanai. But it looked fine, so I just ignored it. Now, it's out back. Weird... I guess these homes are just insulated very well. My friend down in Cape Coral said her windows, depending on what side of the home, had condensation on them these past few days also. I swear I never had that when I lived there!

I have river rock on my lanai floor and it is soaking wet. Walked out there in stocking feet and came back in with dripping wet socks.

Our tile floors in our acrylic sliding door lanai are wet. Mom said she has noticed it for several days now. I called the aluminum company & the tile company; waiting for callbacks. Don't really think there's water coming in because it hasn't rained that hard. Then we thought maybe water is weeping from under the tiles. House is 6 years old, never happened before. My long-winded husband gave me the reason for it but please -- don't ask me to explain it. I kind of get it; it has to do with the cold and combination of a few other things. Bottom line is none of us has a problem . . . OR . . .we're all in the same boat!

I would guess you nailed it. Our glass tables on the lanai are all misted wet.

Our windshield was sweating too when we drove to the Cincinnati Club. Sometimes we get very high humidity levels here in this part of the world.

Exactly! I've been here for 25 and have never seen such a thing! It really does take a bit for you to realize what you're seeing. Well, like you said...at least we're all experiencing the same things. Glad I wrote on here, I'd have puzzled over this for days.

In Seattle we call it dry rain.
The moisture in the air is so high that it condenses on any cool surface but nothing falling. If the surface is cooler than the air. Sometimes a mist so fine you don't notice it. I use to get it on my briefcase waiting for the bus. Seattle has it allot as we have fog or clouds at ground level in higher elevations most early mornings.

Seattle- 4 kinds of rain and 7 ways to order coffee.

i just checked the Weather Channel. We are at 100% humidity (causing all the wetness) but only 10% chance of rain today.

It may be due to the quick change from very cold conditions to relatively warm and very moist conditions. Concrete and tile are still cold when the warm moist air arrives causing condensation. This applies to metal and glass surfaces as well.

slowly but ever so slowly lanai pool deck showing some signs of drying.......there is so much dampness my GFI for all the outdoor plugs has tripped and won't reset.....which means still to damp to allow power.

I am a walker and this morning about 7:45 I went for my usual walk and by the time I was done there was not a dry spot on me, my hair, my clothes, my socks, my shoes, etc. I have sweat before but never as much as this morning. Unbelievable humidity!

Crazy, isn't it?? I am amazed by it. Yes...my lanai floor was wet all day!! Although, it may solve a little mystery I always had in my old home. Sometimes (and for the life of me I can't remember when) I did have little drip marks on my outside sliders. I always (secretly) surmised it was lizard pee...well! It had to be SOMETHING!!:) ...and never gave it much thought. I now wonder if my walls over the sliders were slightly wet and having a little drip now and again. I have a few of those drips on my sliders today, and I can SEE the wet walls. Hmmmm....hahaha!!! :)

Hi All,
We too noticed the problem yesterday in our front door enclosure area. I thought there was a roof leak somewhere. We called the Warranty Office and Sach's Roofing responded this morning. He had three calls about this for today so far. It was definitely condensation. He has been doing roofing for many years and has never seen this like it was yesterday and today. He too indicated that it was the severe weather change from very cold to warm along with almost 100% humidity. He checked both rooms (den and garage) adjacent to the enclosure and there was no problem. All was ok. He also showed me the front of the house where condensation had formed as well. He was really nice and customer service oriented, as all of the vendors have been that we have had in our home. So I guess the bottom line is "no worries be happy"!

Yes, condensation. Floormasters called my Mom back this morning & said it has been so humid that it is delaying their floor installations.

Same concept of when you have cold water in a glass in a warm room the glass will form condensation.

Today our lanai was soaking wet and as others have mentioned it was two extremes :

Very cold surfaces left over from the frigid temps lately coupled with 100% humidity.

Double check to see what you have in your garage that may be subject to mildew, mold etc.

My garage floor is still wet today. It has been finished with epoxy. Water can be seen beading on at least half the floor. Realize it is humid- but is this normal? It is new construction, closed in mid Dec.

Built in 1995. Epoxy floor.

Only happens when we get a few cold days, followed by warm air, with almost 100% humidity.
I put a fan on the garage floor to help dry it up.

We have epoxy garage floor without any water droplets. Hubby says our insulated garage doors are probably the reason.

oh, yes! lanai floor soaking wet as well as outside walls! Should we do something or just turn on our ac??

Is your lanai open or enclosed? What type of floor do u have? It was very humid today which is the cause of the sweating. If anything, you could run a dehumidifier.

Our tiled lanai floors are wet again. Ours is enclosed by acrylic sliders. We've had fog & high humidity before; also cold days followed by warm days. I wonder if Tom Terry of WFTV can give us a reason for all this happening this winter. On a funny note, the cats didn't like the wet floors--jumped from larger rug to rug by door; the one cat did enjoy licking the floor for a drink!

Yup!! Did it again yesterday!! Here's a new twist...my tub in
the guest room was damp on the outside and a few drops were on the floor!! Nothing to do about it as I see it. We've been mopping the lanais so the cats don't get wet paw prints all over, but like KittyKat's they jump from rug to rug when they can...it's hysterical. Oh, also, our golf cart was damp inside..quess we'll leave the sides up when it's in the garage from now on. Very strange...as I've said before, I'm in Florida 24years now and never saw anything like this.

It's called dew point.When the temperature of the glass of ice water is at or below the wet bulb temp it will sweat.At 100% the dry bulb temp and wet bulb temps are the same. As the humidity lowers the dew point lowers. When our garage and lanai are colder than the dew point they will condense water vapor.

Thank you all for your posts as I, along with others, thought I had a leak in the roof. Not only were my pavers in the lanai wet and the granite top of the summer kitchen wet but the outside walls were very damp to the extent I had beads of water on the underside of the stucco, which is exposed. I'm also thinking I may have had a bit more due to our pool being so close to that area. Thanks again for the great feedback. DJM
