Some of that may be to the water here, although the water is OK it is like most of the water in Florida. Very alkali due to the soil being heavily laced with Limestone.
I also find it makes my coffee taste strange. A filter will help.

if you are using the pellet type detergent make sue they are not haedened. Which they can sometimes do if exposed to air.
The pellets are usually soft and spongy. We had a similar problem and then discovered we had a bad batch of detergent.

I had to switch from dry dishwashing detergent to gel and also use Jet Dry and this combination leaves the dishes sparkling!

The problem began when the government banned the additive potash from detergent. Purchase LEMISHINE and add it to your detergent, problem solved.

Run the hot water at the sink til it comes out hot and then add vinegar to the empty dishwasher soap container and run the cycle with the dishwasher empty. Do this periodically.

We just replaced our dishwasher (10 years old). All my glasses were cloudy. We hoped the new dishwasher would fix the problem - nope... not until I doubled the amount of dishwasher pellets from one to two. Now, no issues at all. I think it's the water...

I had the same problem. Switched dish detergent several times. Then I thought it must be our dishwasher. We had the repair man in and he said dishwasher was fine, and that we needed to use finish quantum. Since then our dishes and silverware come out spotless. We have even given neighbors samples, and they have had the same result.

We installed a water softener and whole house filter, now we use Cascade, and no jet dry, and we have sparkling crystal ware. Oh yes, and really good tasting water.

A couple of possibilities for you: Do NOT use liquid or gel dishwasher detergent. It is very caustic and can ruin finishes on some glasswear, china and silverware. Most of the better manufacturers recomment Cascade or Finish (powder). Jet Dry will also help with spotting. Check the setting of your hot water tank. 120 degrees is plenty; any more and you're wasting your money.
I hope everyone's sugestions help.

The water here is probably the hardest water anywhere. That means it's full of minerals. It's tough on your dishes, your clothes and your skin.

I use white vinegar rather than jet dry. Cheaper with same or better results.

Try several different brands of detergent - they each have different chemistry. What works in one place doesn't automatically work in all places. Jet-dry (or similar) will also help.

Same thing happened to me. We do not have a water softner and our water is hard. Finish Quantum makes everything sparkle.

LEMISHINE really worked. I added it the way it said to on the bottle and it worked SO well it took off the print on a cheaply printed coffee mug from Hazels Gulf Shores. I just did a second load of dishes without using the Lemishine and they are still not cloudy. So, I conclude....use Lemishine but don't use as much as they say and it looks like you don't have to use it every wash.

Do you put the vinegar in the dishwasher at the beginning of the cycle, or do you add it during the rinse cycle?

I had cloudy dishes, too, and complained to a friend. She told me that it is the phosphate free soap that we are forced to use.... However, you can order the most amazing soap from Amazon and I promise you, NO more cloudy glasses!
Do a search for "Bubble Bandit" and order it! You will NOT be sorry! I could see a HUGE difference in my glassware after 1-2 washes. Just to make sure I was seeing things properly, I went back to Cascade Pro for a wash...ICK! Glasses came out merky/cloudy, again! No more Cascade (and yes, I use Jet Dry with every load, but dishes were still cloudy), ever again. Bubble Bandit has our business forever!

My dishes come out so horrible in the dishwasher that I've resorted to hand washing them. I've tried putting vinegar in the dishwasher and trying different detergents, Jet Dry....nothing works. Eventually, we are getting a water softener and house filter but until then I will try your other ideas. I sure hope something works. My plates come out with such a film on them and black marks on them. Most of the time my silverware doesn't come clean. My hot water heater is plenty warm. I look forward to trying your ideas.

Ok so I use jet dry, Cascade Complete and throw in 1/2 cup vinegar and my dishes sparkle. I am in Fernandina. Not one spot on my wine glasses.

I am in a rental and couldn't get them clean so I tried the run a load without any dishes and a lot of vinegar and very hot water and now it works much better but I am also adding 1/2 cup of vinegar to the bottom of the thing before I start it and cascade and a rinse agent. It still isn't as good as my one at home but then I don't have hard water at home and I have a bosh.

For the people that have or are getting a water softener system. Be sure to use less dish washing detergent afterwards. The best to use is the cheapest you can find. It doesn't have any of the additives that the popular brands have. After we had ours installed, the finish came off of our Hard Annodized Aluminum pots. That was because we used Finish dish washing detergent.

we have to use a dishwasher additive called affresh which is designed to remove the hard water minerals from the dishwasher and the dishes. The dishwasher repairman told us this about a year ago and it works. We use it about once a month. Good luck.

I switched from Cascade to Finish Quantum tablets and also use Finish Jet Dry. Dishes are much cleaner and dry too when I take them out of the dishwasher now.

Having discoloration on metal. First on an aluminum pie plate. Now, see the outside of my bread machine tub is getting all discolored. Fortunately, inside still good.

Use Cascade Platinum pouches (keep bag sealed) and Finish "Turbo Dry" Jet-Dry. Have never had better results in any dishwashers - especially the low end model that came with our new CYV.

It was my understanding, and has always been my experience, that aluminum discolors in the dishwasher.
The metals in the bakeware and silverware we buy today are not the same quality as they were in our mother's day. This is especially true of stainless steel, most of which now comes from places like Thailand and Vietnam. It's just not the same quality as the US-made ss was.

When we lived in Calif. we had to have a water softener installed and we were having solar hot water put in at the same time the solar guy suggested just putting the softerner on the hot water lines only. This is what we did worked for us.
