Spouse informs me he was at Spanish Springs Sq tonight for the music. At 8:35 the musicians announced they were told to stop, and did. On his way out of the square he noted extra barriers and flashing lights were near TooJays.

I was there as well line dancing with my friends. I was told by someone in the know that he wasn't allowed to say. I asked if we could be in danger and he said could be. So I just left. I thought maybe someone had a gun. Minutes before the announcement I saw a couple of hut workers in a big tizzy about something. They looked alarmed.

Someone in the know? If you can, please tell us who. Then we can either worry more or less that some evil force has taken over this wonderful. safe, friendly, place.

"Someone in the know but was not allowed to say"

I need to sleep on that and see if it sounds as dumb (not the post or poster) in the morning. I wonder how that someone found out?

He was there. He's an employee. I went up and asked him what was going on. His answer was he could not tell me. It just happened.

Bomb threat ends show early at Katie Belles

There are reports that Katie Belles and Spanish Springs Town Square shut down entertainment a little early Monday night due to a bomb threat.
Well-known entertainer Donna Moore was performing her popular show with Dunning Shaw at Katie Belles Monday night.
Nothin like a bomb threat to end the show, Moore posted on her Facebook page.
A Dec. 1 bomb threat forced the evacuation of MVP athletic club and Gators Dockside restaurant, also in Spanish Springs.
In that case, authorities arrested 28-year-old Anthony Borrell of Ocoee. He is now facing a felony charge of false report about planting a bomb. He posted $4,000 and is out on bond.

In defense of Donna Moore, she didn't really say it was at KB's. She stated that they ended the show early because of a bomb threat. It could have been anywhere in the square.

I wonder who a prime suspect might be?

Why would anyone be told to keep something like that quiet? It puts people in danger.

And what was the purpose of the post pointing that out?

Common sense maybe? A rush of frightened people out of a small area like the square and into golf carts and cars on side streets just might have been more dangerous.

I appreciate your response. However I was looking for something from someone who knows the answer.

I have been involved in several bomb threats and this is the first time I've heard of people in the area not being evacuated.

Deb,

In the article it wasn't stated that Donna Moore said that on her facebook page. The second paragraph references the prior bomb threat that happened December 1 that occurred at Katie Belles and noted that the culprit was caught.

I betcha they will get this one too, and he will post bail and be out and like Buggy says, you have to wonder if he is the one who did it....again.

in the article in Villages news dot com it said the report of a bomb was vague like "...somewhere in TV..."

The article does not give any indication why the authorities decided to zero in on Spanish Springs specifically MVP, Katy Bells, etc.

Which implies more to the story....as usual.

You just have to wonder why someone wants to interrupt a bunch of nice people simply having a good time and not harming anyone.

Do these people feel left out? Are they younger and think we are "lucky" not to have to work anymore? Are they from somewhere close by who think we are a bunch of spoiled rich people?

Anyway you look at it, it hits me like vandalism, a crime with no good purpose other than to harm and to destroy someone else's happiness.

Gracie - I think it is just the crazy world we live in. For heaven's sake a 71 year old former sherriff shot and killed someone in a movie theater for texting. The world is going mad.

Yes, I think that is exactly it. Facebook actually has a page called, "I Hate The Villages" and has posts from people (presumably young workers in restaurants) who dislike us because we have some fun and money and they have to work.

The age old haves and have nots perhaps aggravated by our entitlement society and many who at this point in their lives see no way they will ever attain what they see here in TV.

Authorities investigating bomb threat that cleared Spanish Springs

January 14, 2014 By Meta Minton 18 Comments

A vague threat was phoned into the Lake County Sheriffs Office Monday night, prompting Community Watch to shut down Spanish Springs Town Square around 8:30 p.m.

The threat was very vague, something like there is a bomb somewhere in The Villages, Lady Lake Police Chief Chris McKinstry said.

An investigation into the threat is continuing, McKinstry said.

To be cautious, Community Watch asked that the square be cleared.

Read about the last suspect here.

In that case, authorities arrested 28-year-old Anthony Borrell of Ocoee. He is now facing a felony charge of false report about planting a bomb. He posted $4,000 and is out on bond.

Is Rob Newton getting on anyone else's nerves since he has become part of "management" - he just had to come on the air and say the villages would never close a square - bouncing it around like nothing happened.

Well they did close it because I was there. It was announced by Garrett from the stage at 8:30. Abruptly I might add.

You know those community Watch guys need to be updated on the cool runnings of kids today. These kids called them to let them know they were at Spanish springs and thought the activities "were a bomb, man"...meaning the bestest, coolest:D

A bomb threat was called in. The threat was for the Villages, but, community watch and the police dept decided to clear out Spanish Springs. Katie Belles was packed with people and they **** down. Music in the square was stopped and everyone was asked to leave. Dunkin Donuts closed at 8:45 p.m. But some of the stores were open till 9 p.m...Interesting to me why all the music venue's in the other squares were not shut down?
