Has anyone had a person by the name of Stafford knock at their door claiming that they had called for some yard or landscaping work.
Recently, while I was out, two people came to my door and asked if I was home. My wife said that I was not and they said that I had called to have a dead palm removed. She replied that I had not told her about it but we did have a Pinto Palm that appeared to be dead. They quoted a price of $200 to remove it and a cost of $20 per tree to trim up the palms. She called me on my cell phone and I told her that I did not call anyone and that I was 10 minutes away and asked her to tell them to hold up until I got home, When I got there they had already started removing the Palm and cut off all the branches.
They had no name on their truck and after a heated discussion, I paid them $75 and asked them to leave. After calling the Villages, I was told that Stafford was a crook and not to pay him anything

That's the same S.O.B. that got me for two palm trees that I will never see. See my post under NAS Landscaping. They are crooks and losers and thieves

So, is there a warrant out for them? It sounds as though they have summarily ripped off neighbors and that just won't cut it. Do we call the cops if we are approached?

I have two absolute rules which have given me lots of peace of mind over the years:
I I ALWAYS politely decline to say anything to telephone solicitors except "Thank you I am not interested" before hanging up.
2) I ALWAYS tell door-to door solicitors the same thing before closing the door.
Lately, with the rise in reported burglaries and break-ins, I've been thinking about going outside to check whether a door-to-door person has a vehicle parked nearby. I might ask the person if that is their vehicle, but after giving it a good long look I'll say nothing further before going back inside.
Nice to see all you TOTV folks staying vigilant!

I was told to call the sheriff by the Villages Landscape maintenance. I tried to stop payment on the check but they had already gone to the bank. Originally I wrote the check to NAS Landscaping but he wanted it written to Nathan Stafford. If my wife had not told them to go ahead, I would have given them nothing even though they threatened to put a lien on my property and report me to Gwen Smith who they said worked for the Villages. I asked for her number and called after they left and got no answer. I also asked for the phone number of the call they claimed that I made to them and it was from someone in Ohio. They are real con artists and I hope they do not con any one else. I am still upset about it and my nwife is too.

Yes, the Villages advised calling the sheriff. I think getting the license plate number is a good idea. The have no markings on their truck and I had to ask to get a card and also asked for a broucher which they claimed to have but could not produce.

Nathan was just here 2X today, sorry I didn't get his plate # but he did no business. Motto is I think if they knock on your door they are worthless.

I let them trim my hedges and they did a really good job. That said, however, when I hired them to do more work for me, they showed their true con artist colors. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE THIEVES. They conned me out of money for two palm trees I will never see and talk a good game.

First of all, soliciting is not allowed in the Villages. Call neighborhood Watch
All trees to be removed need ARC approval.
If in Lady Lake, call the Lady Lake police

Well, we just had our costly experience with n.a.s. Landscaping, nathan stafford. They came by our house on sunday, trim our palm trees for $100. They did a good job. Before you knew it we had pink rot, mold and a virus on our palms. Total job ended up costing us $250. Please beware, you try to help young people get started and they just take advantage. I was scared that is why we paid, they talk a hard talk, they threatened a lien, we were just nervous about repercussions that may occur if we did not pay. We have learned a hard lesson. Not sure who to advise.

So we have known con artist ripping people off. We know their truck and quite possibility their plate number. Why can't this information be passed on to the people who man the gates? If they see them they can call the police. If you are having palm trees trimmed the blades of the saws must be disinfected before they are used.
