Street Signs

I recently filled in a comment form (on line) but these are available at mail boxes regarding the way the street signs are installed. Maybe I am off base, but below is what I sent in and the reply. From the reply, if you agree with me, lots more people need to contact CIC and express their opinions. CIC can be contacted by using the form, or electronically: CIC@thevillages.net.

I sent:
Item That Needs Attention: All cross street locations along, for example Pinellas Place. The existing placement of the Pinellas Place street name tends to block the view of the cross street name. While driving on Pinellas Place, the driver is looking for the cross street name, NOT the Pinellas Place street name.

Suggestion For Improvement: If the cross street name placard was placed on the side of the pole TOWARD Pinellas Place, instead of the existing side which is AWAY from Pinellas Place the cross street signs would be easy to see. NOTE: I used Pinellas Place as an example, this exists at many more locations in the villages.

David, thanks so much for this suggestion! Before construction began south of 466A, we had similar suggestions from residents south of 466 which were turned over to the developer thru channels. The response was that the street signs were erected as designed...... We will begin collecting remarks like yours for another run.

I agree 100%. A few years ago submitted the same suggestion that you submittted and received the same response. To me it's actually a driving hazard because people pass the street and then start looking backwards to try to read it. Hopefully if enough people send in a suggestion to get this addressed then maybe it will be corrected.

I've seen this sign placement many places across this country. Not sure why it is done this way. Perhaps someone with prior civic traffic or road planning experience can address issue this for the group.

Is this an issue that the Villages Homeowner's Association would be willing to publicize and request support for?

We have discussed this before in TOTV and most everyone agrees that they are very hard to read and as stated above a safety hazard especially at night.

Wow, great support, lets now contact CIC with complaints, and maybe we can get this changed......

I always remark to my husband that the signage isn't that great. I think they could improve on the reflective sheeting that the sign blank is made of.

When we moved here in 2007 I complained to someone about the signs and was told that Jennifer Parr (I think she's the right sister) likes the look of them and that they would never change them. I think they could still be made out of the same material but just not placed on the same level; one should be lower than the other. The other problem with locating street signs sometimes is that the trees are planted right next to the signs.

OK so I come from petition land and may be way off base.

But if enough signatures were taken by some of the concerned walking around on market night in the squares with clip boards and then it was given to those who control all Ie the Morris family wouldn't that work. If you bypass the bureaucratic maze might that be more effective. It doesn't mean new signs just reorienting the existing ones or at least getting them to change how they do any new ones.

Agreed the signs are hard or impossible to read as they are put up. The simple solution is not to have them both at the same height (that blocks the other sign) but to place one above the other so one sign doesn't block the other sign.
I guess this is one area The Villages clearly didn't get it right.

Simply said, stack them, one on top of the other the way it is done all over the country. The way they are now may look nice, but it is not functional for the residents and the visitors looking for a street. How many times, have I gone almost past the street I wanted just because I could not see it, and end up doing a quick corrective turn, upsetting the tail-gate person behind me.

Just like putting a compass direction (letter) on Morse and Buena Vista, North or South as a driver enters a round-about from SS or LSL.
