Hello, I've been lurking around here since last winter when we came down for a month. We're soon coming down for two months. If we weren't Canadians, I think I would move there permanently.
I'm hoping maybe someone can help me find a sewing group that would welcome a visitor for a couple of months. Here at home a bunch of us meet once a week to work on sewing and quilting projects and socialize. Though some days I think its more socializing than anything. I would love to be able to continue with my sewing for the months I'm here. I see there are quilting guilds but I find that some quilt guilds are a bit more serious sewers than I am.
I'll be in Amelia so something in that general area would be great but I'm willing to travel a bit.
Thanks so much.

check out the sewing group that meets at seabreeze at 1 pm on Saturday afternoon. Their focus is charity sewing, but they also show their own work and they will be in the know for what is going on in the sewing world around the villages as they come from all areas. they are very active and make lots of different types of personal projects as well. The name is Fabric fun or something like that, you can find them in the bulletin and call or email the leader for more info. Also, at Lake Miona a group that supports operation shoebox meets on Monday at 11:30 am. Again, charity sewing but they will be in the know of what is going on in the world of sewing. If you stop by you will see lots of cutters, sewers, pressers for a good cause and a both are very nice groups of people.

Thank you. I'll check them out. Once a month here we do charity quilting so I'm happy sewing for someone else if I'm not working on my own projects.

there are other charity groups that involve sewing - one meets at Coconut Cove on Monday afternoons, and I think one meets at Paradise. Start reading the Rec News online so you'll know where to go. There's a link on the villages dot com
Also, you can visit any quilt guild chapter as a guest (nearly all meet Tues. morning or afternoon, think there are one or two that meet mondays. Check out qgotv dot org Most have serious and not-so-serious members - fun to just walk around and see what people are doing - everyone happy to show and tell. Look at the chapter website, though, because the monthly business meeting (except for the show and tell part) might be boring to you.
You could also go to the monthly guild meeting (entire guild)- 1st Monday of the month at Laurel Manor at 7 pm. Different speakers and a show and tell, and samples of upcoming classes. Just introduce yourself to whomever you end up sitting near.
