In the "olden days" the best coffee I ever had was at the NY Athletic Club where we were told they scoured each pot or urn after every use, and they never used expensive coffee.
(My friend's boss was a member. Great meals too.)
Nowadays, for me, as a lover of strong coffee, the very very best is Keurig Sumatran Blend, by far.

Buckeyes..if you google IHOP coffee brand, you will see a lot of blogs saying that IHOP uses Royal Cup brand coffee which is available over the internet in individual packets. I don't drink coffee, so I can't verify this.

Kona, but you have to be sitting in a cafe in the islands, on the beach, to appreciate the full effect! It is the most wonderful coffee...has to be 100% Kona, and not a blend.

The best cup of coffee can be hit or miss whether it's out at a Dunkin' Donuts or in your own home. Once in a great while, one can truly make a SUPERIOR cup of coffee...the right amount of water, the right amount of Maxwell House (sorry, old fashion), a pinch of salt, the right amount of sugar and coffee cream. I have to say I've hit a great cup quite a few times in my lifetime at home and out too. One more thing about coffee. I've enjoyed a Keurig for awhile and whatever coffee you choose, the nice thing is that, for the most part, the taste is consistent.

Without a doubt, the best coffee I have had would be at the Ritz-Carlton resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica. It was 100% Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee. Unfortunately, the Ritz-Carlton is not there anymore. Adding a shot of dark Jamaican rum to the second cup made it a perfect experience.

Nothing better after swimming 1/2 mile here at Swimdawg North than stopping at Tim Horton's for an X-L coffee to take home. In Swimdawg South, I love Dunkin' Donuts whole bean regular coffee...ground at home. I love the smell of coffee. Hmm....hmmm..good!

Years ago I got a bag of some Kenyan coffee. It was the best coffee that I've ever had. I wish I remember where I got it. I also had some Kona that was great.
Also, if you ever go to South Beach there is a little street called Espaniola Way that runs off of Washington around 15th Street. It's like a little Cuban village and the coffee all up and down that street was awesome.
I don't understand people that think that Dunkin Donuts, IHOP and all these other watery coffees are great. I think that they must not have ever had real coffee.

I roast my own coffee. Once you have fresh roast you realize that all the coffee you have ever had is stale.
I roast enough for a week and by the sixth day I can tell the difference. My favorite beans are Kona Peaberry from a small family farm on the big Island, Kona Purple Mountain, expensive but worth it. From Africa I like Kennya AA, from Central America Costa Rican Tarrazo and Guatemalan, from South America Coulmbian Supremo, from Indonesia Sumatra Mandelheing. Jamaican Blue Mountain is good but priced like gold. There are hundreds of different coffee beans and all have different flavor profiles depending on the location they are grown in and the roast time. Dark roast is essentially burned coffee beans. I like most of my beans roasted to a lite city roast, the first crack, regular city roast is second crack, dark roast is burnt. Every type of bean will taste different depending on the roast.
HaHa more information about coffee than you wanted to know.

The answer ot that question depends on how a person prefers their coffee. I do not care for strong coffee was places like Starbucks would be buckles if everyone was like me.
Most places are hit and miss so I seldom drink coffee out.
According to my wife I make an excellent cup of coffee but I believe she is playing Tom Sawyer/Huck Finn with me.

You won't have good coffee unless you have good water. The water also has to be HOT to brew the coffee. First boil the water in the kettle pour into glass coffee pot to measure then into coffee maker. I own a B&B and I use Maxwell regular roast and people love my coffee and cannot believe it is Maxwell. But it must be brewed right.

Several people have hit on the answer. It isn't just what coffee, it's where and under what circumstances.
My best was when I was a teenager working my way through college.
I worked Summers outdoors for Orkin Exterminators putting tents on houses to be treated for termites.
There were occasional summer days when the rain drove us inside and we would go to the 4th of July Cafe in West Tampa and get Cuban Coffee (half and half with hot milk) and dunk strips of toasted Cuban bread in it and watch the rain come down.
None ever tasted better.

The very best coffee I ever had was when I traveled down to Caracas, Venezuela about 15 years ago. Of course, I was there on business and wouldn't leave the hotel campus (afraid of being shot), but all day long I went down to the restaurant and the waiters would see me coming and put on a fresh pot of coffee for me, they knew how much I loved it. Ummmm it was strong and delicious. The exchange rate was so ridiculous at that time, I think it came out to about 5cents a cup (or less), but I threw them a dollar and they loved me to death. This went on all day long, I have never had a better cupa.... too bad but I'll never go back, good coffee or not.

I also use a French press if say one person wants decaf. However, there is a lot of sediment even using a paper filter. It is only good for 1 person. A cup today is only 5 oz.

The "best" coffee I ever enjoyed was after 7 days sailing in The Abacos. Went to The Hope Town Harbour Lodge for a meal before hopping on an airplane home. The aroma and taste was the BEST, and when I queried our wait staff person they reported that the Lodge only served Maxwell House! Huge surprise to me and I have never been able to duplicate the experience with Maxwell House. Day in and day out Panera generally serves the best coffee I enjoy when eating out. At home I brew (using the term loosely) Keurig K cup Jet Fuel for me and K cup Newmans Own organic decaf for the Mrs.

My all time favorite is Kona Coffee when on any Hawaiian island. I spent a lot of time in France and got to enjoy the strong French Roast in the morning.
I think Dunkin Donuts had their best coffee when they ground the beans and brewed it at the counter. They don't seem to do that anymore and their coffee taste is still unique but doesn't quite taste the same.
Oh, and I'll take a Cafe du Monde beignet with any coffee.
