Hello All,

We purchased a 10 year old Courtyard Villa and, generally, love the house.

But it still has the original master shower with tiles and grout.

The shower tends to have gray and pinkish mold/stains in it and we can't seem to get rid of them. We have tried several mold removers and they don't really get the job done. Even a scrub brush and cleanser doesn't remove the pink stains. :ohdear:

We leave the fan on after a shower and open both sides of the sliding door but that only slows down the stain process.

I would appreciate any advice someone could give about this problem.

Thanks!

If you have not tried Mold Armor Instant Mold and Mildew Stain Remover. I suggest that you give it a try. It works very well and is easy to use. I purchased mine at Home Depot. It comes in a lime colored spray bottle. Ask the people in the paint dept. where it is and it is in their area.

Tilex Mold & Mildew works the best. Spray it on and let sit for 20-30 minutes and if its not gone use a scrub brush on the area.

Tilex is the only mold remover that has worked for me and I am in the cleaning business.

If there is mold in your caulking and Tilex won't remove it you will need to have it re caulked. Nothing will take that out once it has set in.

You can also use bleach & water but I find Tilex works best. Please make sure when you use Tilex to keep the fan on and close the door. The fumes are very strong so wear a mouth & nose cover when you go back to clean.

I keep a spray bottle with a mixture of 1/2 Clorox Bleach and 1/2 water. Whenever I see any mold forming, I just give it a quick spray and its gone in a minute.

I agree!! I swear by Tilex. I think it's the bleach in it, because I have to have the fan on when I use it. Very strong smell, that can get into your digestive system. Like you said, you have to let it sit a while. Also like Ka-Boom for soap scum.

After trying all the products from the store, I found that a 4 to 1 mix of white vinegar with water and a couple of drops of Dawn dishwashing liquid in a spray bottle works well. Spray it on, let it sit for just a couple of minutes, and wipe with a magic dirt eraser.

We spray it with pure bleach....Works very well even on caulking and is cheap to buy.

I spray with bleach, let it sit for a bit and then rub with Magic Eraser. Works like a charm. Of course, it will return. Try re-caulking to stop that.

Check the ingredients on your mold products, almost all the main ingredient is "Sodium Hypochlorite" aka chlorine bleach.

If the grout is the original, and since it's 10 years old, and the mold was quite invasive, the best thing to do is have a tile installer completely remove the old grout and replace it with the new type that is less likely to mold. there are some new grouts available that don't mold so easily.

We put a solar tube in the bathroom. The sunlight helps to get rid of the mold build up. Solar Guys did the job.

Just thinking we do not have a mold problem and wondering why. We have a small glass brick window.

I take a q-tip and straight bleach. Just put the bleach on the mold, gone in a few minutes, no scrubbing necessary. Looks like new.
