My wife and I are moving to TV in July 2015 and I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the working conditions at TV Hospital. My wife is an excellent and motivated RN here in California and will be looking for work at or near TV. Any tips, tricks, or advice?

At least 50% lower here, probably more.

I came to The Villages from NH in August 2012. I am a CNA and was shocked regarding the rate per hour, much less... So pls be prepared. You might think about putting some resumes through now..

The hospital has a new nurse recruiter who is very personable and effective. Contact HR and tell them when you are coming, see what they tell you. We are in season here now, and the hospital is building a new addition, so they are hiring. But, the pay is poor compared to many other states.

Any good nurse should be very welcome!

But all being relative, the cost of housing is lower and so are the taxes too. Groceries, not so much. It is far less expensive to live well here than to live well in California and New York City and near and in Boston, etc, etc,. Just sayin'.

I respectfully disagree with your comment. There are many very good and very qualified nurses who are taking early retirement to get out of the rat race and who are prepared to work in this area for less pay and less stress.

The two nurses who did my pre-surgical prep were excellent and very qualified - one was early retired from Mayo Clinic in Minneapolis and the other was early retired from Chicago General - cannot get much better than that. These ladies have been nursing for years and knew their jobs inside out.

When I have had contact with medical people, it is the younger ones who are trying to raise families here who complain about the pay scale.

The hospital (and associated Leesburg hospital) advertised earlier this season for traveling nursing to work the snowbird season at (as I recall) $42/hr. It is obviously a short-term contract and probably does not include benefits, but then again, leaves the rest of the year to do things.
