Parking lot wandering

Sometimes we must get in a trance while in our stores. As I heard the train whistle blowing today, I thought perhaps a few people may have wandered up to the tracks after coming out of Walmart or Publix. It is a parking LOT! As wonderful as the Villages are and we are all in that happy place, we must walk straight lines in parking lots with eyes forward..look right, look left. Please save looking at the sky for when you get home. Spoken with a kind heart.

I think she's saying we are wandering all over the parking lots without looking where we are going and are, therefore, a problem to drivers in their cars!

I could be wrong ................... but, that's how I read it.

That is what I though at first, but then couldn't figure out which Publix is by the train tracks. Perhaps the OP could straighten us out.

Too funny, that is my husband's pet peeve. He hates it when he is driving down an aisle looking for a parking spot and people are wandering down the center of the aisle with no clue that cars are behind them. I think the OP wants people to walk along the side of the parked cars so drivers can pass by them. :shrug:

I was being light about some folks that walk right out of the store as though they are walking in a field, then they walk at a diagonal. I just wanted people to be aware because i care. I am so glad some people are paying attention. "grin" the train track comment was sarcasm.

Not only the Publix parking lots but all of the parking lots here or even the squares. Folks walk out not looking right or left but must have "great" faith they won't get hit by a car. Pedestrians "do" have the right of way at pedestrian crossings, not helter-skelter. I'm amazed that we haven't had a bad accident (or maybe we have) with this issue! Also folks that seem to think the parking lot is a street where they can just "buzz" on through quickly..........

now just how orderly do we have to be? There is no hurry....we are all retired...we have given up the need to rush to do anything....I certainly have.

Keep in mind many of the wanderers are trying to find their cars...we all do it. The priority is to look for the car not be concerned with efficient traffic flow.

You can put that request on page 27 of wants right along with using turning signals, obeying speed limits, stopping at stop signs, yirlding in traffic circles and sharing the multi modal paths without a hyper incident.

The same thing occurs at the golf courses. People meander all over the place. They check in and go back to their carts without looking left or right. If you are leaving the course you better watch out for them because they are not even looking. They also congregate in the middle of the area between the carts in the middle of the cart driving area. They do not even seem to care that they are blocking the egress for carts.

Please look out and realize the carts need to get in and out of the area.

Have to admit my guilt of walking through the parking lot aimlessly. Sometimes I have lost my cars whereabouts and so as I am thinking, I'm walking. On the other hand, as a driver I ALWAYS stop for pedestrians. I learned this from living in CA for many years. The elderly are always thankful because I stop while they wait for an opening to cross and I wave them on with a smile. I have taught my kids to do the same as they are compassionate people. Figure Lord willing, I'll be in the same spot soon enough.

Thank you. I can tell you have a kind heart. I'm sure there are times when we all tend to "zone out" and need to be reminded to pay attention to other cars and golf carts around us. As well, I often notice people talking on their cell phones rather than paying attention to their driving.

I see this quite often too. If it's not people walking around in a daze it's the countless people I see with a cell phone in their hand flying past stop signs in cars and carts. Moving about safely in the villages can be a challenge. You just have to be on the ready.

I really get annoyed with the reaction to many posts " that we are all retired so whats the hurry". Yes, many or most of us here are retired and we shouldn't be in a hurry.. that's not the point of the OP. Its called common sense with maybe some common courtesy. The OP was making a statement and voicing an opinion regarding people who walk out of stores with no regard to traffic. Yes the pedestrian has the right of way but the pedestrian SHOULD be aware of the fact that it is a parking lot they are walking into & there is going to be traffic. That statement has nothing to do with us being retired & we shouldn't be in a hurry.

All cars have blind spots what scares me is when I see someone step into what I can see is the blind spot for the driver of the car. I have seen quite a few near misses when people are backing up and someone steps from behind a car into their blind spot. Had a womans stroller hit the rear quarter panel of my car once when I wasn't moving I hate to think if I had been backing up as I couldn't see her at all.
