Can you damage a golf cart motor (elec) by

spinning tires and being pushed?
Long story short, we are snow/iced in (in Alabama, no less) and so I rode a few miles down the road yesterday in the golf cart. Coming back, I couldn't make it up a slight hill, so some folks were pushing while I was giving it gas and the tires would just spin. Happened 3 or 4 times, then the motor just stopped. I had to leave the cart and walk home (fortunately only a block) but now I'm worried I may have done permanent damage to the motor.
Anyone know anything about this?

A motor can be damaged if towed at a higher speed with power going to the motor. As most vehicles have an anti-rollaway feature and regenerative braking, the controller would sense the unit moving without anyone pressing the pedal, and then send voltage to the motor to attempt and slow down or stop the unit.

With that said, if the power was shut off to the controller, and the "pushing" was by human means, I'd bet you're just fine.
