We left our house about 6:30pm tonight. We went north on Morse, after leaving Pinellas Place. We were in the left lane when we saw headlights aiming straight for us through the rain! Quickly we pulled into the right lane, and the car just sailed on by, not slowing down or anything. I hope they figured out that they were in the wrong lane by the time they got to the roundabout at the Sanibel gate! VERY SCARY!

My husband was on his way home from Tampa around 7:45 and there was a small pickup truck going the wrong way on Powell Rd south of 466A.

Whew. I am glad you are both safe. Please drive as if everyone else is crazy, because they are.

Morse Blvd was most likly a confused old person, but a pickup on Powell is likly to be tipsy local.

There was an ambulance on Morse, just past the roundabout, going towards 441, yesterday. My guess is a vehicle hit a cart driver, that was going around the roundabout path.

I hope this peron is ok.

I can't believe that are not more accidents at those roundabout circles! Some people are clueless as to how to drive in them... or they just don't care.

All new Villagers should be instructed on driving through round-a-bouts

Actually, new residents ARE instructed about roundabouts.....and multi modal paths in The Villages.

Did you see a damaged cart?

I am thinking of getting a service dog to remind me when I am driving on the wrong side of the road.

I have been trying to get up enough courage to ask you this for a long time and since you are the only chicken that I communicate with.

WHY do you cross the road?

There are a lot of Brits here this time of year. Having driven there and here it can be quite confusing when you come to an intersection, "which lane do I turn into". I found it helpful to remember that the driver is always next the centre line. Be careful out there.

The construction company that built the road failed to properly calibrate its surveying equipment and inadvertently built the road between my food source and my roost.

Instructed or not, that probably wouldn't help!

I wish those round-abouts could be removed. The only thing they do is cause problems, but the the farther they build the more they put in.

Shouldn't the Canadians learn to properly identify bacon before worrying about that left/right business?

We are? I don't remember that. Actually, there are a lot of people driving through TV who are not residents. Training for those living here might help but if you someone can't understand the big arrows painted in the roads I'm not sure any training would help. The roundabouts do a good job of keeping traffic moving but way too many people are clueless as to how to navigate them. This goes for residents, visitors and contractors. I've even seen TV buses in the wrong lane. Go figure.

how true this comment is, the two words are clueless and even more important is the word "just don't care "..... I have made a point of watching the round-a-bout near glenview. I know it a fact that less than 25% of the drivers use their turn signals. When these drivers are in the round-a-bout other drivers have no idea what these people's intentions are. But as i said so many times, these least used electronic device in the villages is the turn signal. They never wear out !!!!!

And what would you put in the place of the roundabouts? Stop signs?

Driving west on Morse Blvd this week and saw a rather large automobile driving east on the golf cart path! Luckily a police car stopped the car and rerouted it back to the roadway!!! Expect anything and everything!!!

Hi geri317,

Just curious, do you know how the officer stopped a car on the rec trail. Did the policeman get out of their car and run over to the wayward car/driver?

I think it is great they stopped the car but am curious why they chose to do that.

It has been discussed on TOTV many times about law enforcement not having jurisdiction on private TV rec trails, and that is the reason no citations are issued to cart drivers exceeding 19.9 mph on TV rec trails.

Regards,
Don

Actually, the police are authorized jurisdiction on the MM trails for reckless and dangerous situations.

The police car was up over the curb, on land right beside golf cart lane, parked in front of the car that was driving on the path. He had his police lights going which is what caught my eye while driving by.

Yesterday (Saturday) at about 8:05 AM we saw one non-street legal cart driving over the bridge on Morse heading towards 466 amongst the cars. Upon our return about noon time heading in the opposite direction we observed a golf cart pass through the Morse gate north of 466 with the wife driving a new non-street legal cart and the husband reading a street map, which they then proceeded across 466 traveling amongst the car traffic and then straight over the bridge. At about 8:15 PM in the evening our day was topped off with emergency vehicles surrounding the Odell Circle gate by Mallory CC. It appeared to involve a damaged car possibly heading in the wrong direction that impacted either a golf cart, another vehicle or the gate wall. Drive with care as there are many confused people driving throughout The Villages.

It is the beginning of a month, and many new renters are here, never having read this forum or knowing anything about driving golf carts and sigh, MAYBE driving in general.

I am telling you all once again to drive as if everyone else is crazy, because they are.

The heavy traffic and novice golf cart drivers will be gone in eight weeks and I want every ONE of us, to still be here.

Amen to that one Gracie!!! Just today I was *in* the circle going past the LSL exit onto Morse...when a woman in a van just kept coming w/o yielding into the circle. I had to gun it otherwise she'd have broadsided me. When I laid on the horn she looked at me as if I were in fault when *if* she'd have indeed hit me, she'd have gotten the citation. That triangle sign does mean something, just like the red octagon one does...but apparently many folks have forgotten their driver's ed.

*if* she'd have indeed hit me, she'd have gotten the citation. . UNFORTUNATELY, don't be confident that SHE would get any citation. It has become common for the perps to resound with, "Hey officer, I slowed at the intersection and then slowly entered when she came SPEEDING around the circle and right in front of me!" Unless there is a witness (and generally NOONE wants to 'get involved,' you will settle this with lawyers or insurance companies. The officer is not going to spend any time putting a traffic case together and either is your insurance company. (Been there.) Always have your cell or a camera ready to carefully document anything you can if you are involved in an accident. And be prepared for the perp to just keep going as if nothing happened .....

Was going south on Odell Circle in Mallory/Amelia around 6:30 tonight, just starting to go down the hill when I saw headlights in my lane! I stepped on the brakes & the person kept coming. I laid on the horn & was about to flash my headlights when the person pulled into the northbound lane. I think it was an elderly lady, her head wasn't too far above the car door.

I saw the commotion at the gate last night. I thought it looked like someone had stopped for a cart at the crossing & was rear-ended. Hard to tell in the dark.
