There are a number of techniques to help deter property theft....

And there are a number of ways to help identify stolen property during the property recovery phase....

This appears to be a new item: CopDots (http://www.copdots.com)

Does anyone have experience using this product? I know nothing about it,
but it seems interesting. I wonder if the local PD or SO has the capability to read the embedded information?

Best,
Casey

First I've heard of this. Looks like a great product. Think I'll go to Lowe's and buy it......
Thanks,

Update:

I suspect this is a variant of a process I knew as "explosive taggants." Check it out on Wikipedia.

Briefly, taggants are microscopic bits ("dots" if you like) that can be embedded in a solution or solid (like an explosive) that can later be recovered to retrieve 'tagged information. The tagged information can be used to identify an owner, or in the case of an explosive, the manufacturer (including lot number, who bought it, etc). Taggants are so small that even after an explosion the microbits are still intact and their information retrievable.

I suspect CopDots is something similar.

Casey
