Please don't leave TOTV. I enjoy your posts so much. Many people write hurtful things on boards where you don't have to state your name. I know that it is very hard to do,but you need to ignore them. Well Gracie I don't post much here but I understand your hurt. Forums become negative places when users can hide behind a screen name. Years ago we told our kids that instant messenger was bad for that reason, now it seems that hiding behind screen names does it again.

I accidently ran across this topix site about a year ago. I too was angry at how they could talk about you and your daughter in such a mean spirited manner. Honestly, someone has to be mentally unstable to say such hateful things about a handicapped child. These people are of low mentality and most likely jealous of you. This is my first post to the TOTV. My wife and I bought a house in The Villages last July. We are still working and will not be able to move to TV for a few years. There has not been a day go by that I don't read the TOTV to see what is going on and to get a feel for our future home.

Gracie, you above all others, have been such a wonderful leader on the board and an incredible source of information. You have shown such great wisdom, understanding, and kindness. I have seen the great respect that people have for you and your wise words.

I know you were a teacher. The young people whose lives you touched during those years are so incredibly fortunate. My wife and I are both teachers. We know how frustrating it can be on certain days. Please, please, Gracie, think of this unfortunate experience as just a bad day at school. I am sure that you occasionally had a bad day and wondered if it was all worth it. Then you went to school the next day and saw the impact you made on your students and realized how rewarding it was. Please apply those thoughts and experiences to this one. We are your students and we need you!

If you read TOPIX from the beginning, you will see that I was attacked also, someone used my name to post some absolutely awful things that would never come out of my mouth and I was also personally attacked by some others on there. I was so devastated, I withdrew from TOTV for quite awhile and had a terribly emotional time with it all. It was a very bad experience for me so I can understand what you are going through.

What I did was to take a break, I left the forum for awhile, probably a month or two, and did other things, anything that would make me happy. Lunches with friends, walking among the beautiful areas here in the villages, watching the birds, enjoying the dogs and the people, just forgetting what mean-spirited people there are out there. At the same time, I received so many private messages from good friends on TOTV who let me know how they really felt about me, how much they enjoyed my posts, enjoyed how I helped to organize the meet and greets for new people and also organize the monthly Crispers lunches. It gave me such a sense of worth and love and support that I came back to TOTV slowly and with some trepidation because I was scared, but I did it and I'm glad I did. I know its hard, but please try to ignore those mean people, they are just jealous. Believe me, its true.

Just hug Helene, Sweetie and the wonderful pussy cats, and enjoy your life here and don't be hung up on a computer, its really not worth it. Stay well.

Gracie, I checked out the topix thread. I was a little baffled by a couple of things. I couldn't keep up with who was posting what....hard to explain, but the names seems to change as they go along. A few people even stated they did not post certains posts, even though they were under their names. All mixed up, as though the site had been hacked, or something. Anyway.....not the point.....

I have been following TOTV for about 3 years now, and I simply don't "get" where the negative posts are coming from. It was brought up several times that they thread was indeed meant for bashing and anyone who didn't like the bashing could move on, so.....just consider the source. Anyone who would read that garbage and let it influence their opinion of you is not worth worrying about.

The Internet is a wonderful tool, but it also is a perfect crutch for cowards and ne'er do wells who let their evil out but without the consequences. Please try not to be too concerned. I have searched for just the right words to put here for you Grace. I saw where Bucco posted supporting you. That within itself is an inspiration. I tried a couple of times to find the forum and after my second failed attempted I asked myself why I was wasting my morning looking for trouble. Those who posted on TOPIX post on TOTV...be aware

There are many who post on TOTV who are on their 2nd, 3rd, or more user names due to being kicked off.

To be not liked due to being blunt, in my opinion, is better than being a phony or simply having issue to resolve.

This poster is correct...I was ostracized for pointing out trolls, but they exist in many forms, and if you are going to frequent message boards be aware.

I might add that the current management came in fair and balanced and has shown no tolerance to the harshness of the past, a smart decision that has proven beneficial to everyone on this site. I did find it and it is awful. What is most disturbing is that it appears that at least one of these posters accepted an invitation to GG's home and reported back to the group. This is beyond just a few rude remarks, it is a betrayal. What has happened to civility and respect?
If these comments are from people who are/were acquaintances, having a separate forum for those who have only met in person will not save someone from this cowardice behavior.

I was alerted to this TOPIX site a few years ago. The particular topic on TOTV was begun by a few who were kicked off here, or became disenchanted by the "trends" on this board. This was under the past admin who kicked a number off PERMANENTLY. Fact is there were a number of renegade boards begun by those who just did not like the "stripes" of a few on here. Most have died off.

But make no mistake....those who are on that TOPIX board are here posting...they even have posted Gracies number of posts, etc from reading the profile. From the past years I can assure you that folks lauded as heroes on this board have gone elsewhere to trash.

I know my rep on here is being blunt and I am, but I am also honest.....there are folks on here talking about it on other boards...there are folks on here with second, third and fourth screen names because they were thrown off the board for being abusive. There are folks on here who "get together" to get others....not pretty but true.

You should be able to express your opinion and not have the fact you disagree be construed as anything but that, but that is not the case. Folks will find a way to get at you, and in this case these few folks who do not like Gracie and others found this outlet. Actually, if you read back in time on that particular thread you will find the actual INITIAL screen name of a few posters who left here disenchanted. Whether they still post on here under another name I do not know, BUT I DO KNOW that those who have bashed by name on TOPIX reside HERE on TOTV.

I think this has been a learning exercise for many of us, in lot's of different ways.

The lesson to be learned here is stay off TOPIX a waste of time and can if a person takes the abusive comments seriously can do a lot of damage.

I have gotten it, RICHIELION has gotten it.....and a few others. Gracie caught the brunt of it for sure, and as much as I was outa here, I am waiting until she is back in the saddle again on here. Her trust in nature has to be skewed right now.

Actually, we have a poster who is on a multiple ID on this board who used to post there using his real first name.....last time I was mentioned as a bad buy by name on there was when folks were upset with me for pointing out how to recognize flamers. I have been called names there when I disagree with certain people. I am not the most diplomatic person around but disagreeing is not the same as mean and nasty (a few of the words said about me over there)

But this is not about me.......getting Gracie back here and comfy is important...they overdid it with her...and they are still here READING THIS....probably enjoying all of it, but getting her back is important as well as just plain cautioning folks about any board...ANY board. I KNOW factually of a few posters on that Topix site who post quite a bit on here and back in 2008, many of those who went to that site were using the same name there as here. Now, they appear to be more devious and I hope this public airing of this will make them a bit more cautious because in some cases, the "disguise" is not even good. Has taught me, as well as hardened me, over the years to find that on line folks can have so many different personalities.

There appears to be an effort underway to erase what they can...I know of a post from someone who is still on here that cited our TOTV folks as having driven off a few folks and they mentioned them by name....it was not true as I was one who was mentioned in that post. Cannot find it now so assume a bit of housecleaning underway. GOOD......airing this is good

I had never heard of Topix until a couple of days ago. I just read several pages of The Villages forum on it and it was sickening to see how mean spirited some people can be. It actually sounded like a high school clique was gossiping about an unpopular person. Very juvenile -and hateful.

I have had disagreements regarding viewpoints with several posters but never would I think they would write vile things about me on an alternate forum just as I would not do to them. We are adults here - even though some actions sure do not seem that way.

I too had never heard of or been on Topix. I went there today to see what this was all about. Looks to me like high tech version of high school note passing. I will not return, what those leeches say is of no interest to me. I think I will have to shower now.

Folks, this has been going on relative to Gracie since mid 2012, almost two years. It is nothing new........the posters who run from here to there are still here and will continue to be here.

This outpouring for Gracie is great and it is the only reason I am back....no sweat, I will get out of the way.....but this is not new....the repeat offenders on here are not new. Gracie just has to get back and develop trust once again with folks. This will not stop as long as the internet is here.

If I shared with you what I have been called, well you might agree but point is....this is life. I tried to warn folks about this and also about the other pitfalls that I have seen on here but was called a bully not only on Topix but here and reminded to behave, thus my sensitivity level is not that great right now.

My prayer is that Gracie will step back on the stage a bit wiser and a bit more leery of people.

I would love to see a FOR TOTV LOVERS forum that you could only join by showing up at Crispers and signing up in person. It would be a wonderful forum for those of us that wish to see everyone happy. When you put a face and a name with the ID, folks are more civil to one another.

Go back a few YEARS. You must be a lot younger than I to have so much time. I try to stay in the now and not worry about the past. I have never seen this site or read the awful things people have said about you or in your name, but I am so sorry that happened to you. It's never easy to be the victim of that kind of awful bullying. Is all this about TOPIX,lol!!! That forum is known for racism, defamation and hate on every level. You don't go there unless you are up for some vicious cyber bullying. People have lost jobs, had their professional and personal reputations ruined by various TOPIX forums. Best advice, don't go there, EVER! There have been plenty of efforts to have TOPIX censored. Unfortunately they have been protected up to this point by speech freedoms. Gracie, you are one of thousands who have been hurt by this forum. Do some research on the TOPIX forums of which there are thousands. You will learn a lot and find out that the attack might feel personal but it's just par for the course in the TOPIX world. Those that put their phone numbers in their posts must know that post is out there in the internet forever and a reverse index will link that phone number to an address and/or name. Anybody who wants to put a phone number in their classified ad should first get a google voice number. That number can then forward to your home or cell without revealing to the caller your private numbers.

I do not understand what makes people do that why would you say such mean things about people. I have never met anyone in person on totv but look forward at some point in the evening to catch up . Looked at the site - what a bunch of trash. If TOTV ever got to be like that....I'd be gone-in-a-flash. I live by the code "if you don't have something nice to say about a person, don't say anything at all. In my long life, I probably have not met 5 persons that I could not find something nice to say about them. We talk on TOTV about how the world is changing and the country is "going to hell in a handbasket". This TOPIX is a perfect example of it in our own community. Like The Villages as a community, TOTV as a communication web site can be held up as an example of the right way to operate. I know what this is like to lose your trust in people because of someone else's need to use the Internet as a kind of junior high school restroom stall wall with often about as much maturity and consequences you find from whatever is written on these walls. I know the Villages' area restrooms also sometimes have these writings on them so immaturity does not leave with age.

I had been trying to help this Chesterfield VA man ( a defendant in various white collar crime cases) on Findlaw find cases for his court filings and had even travelled to the closest law and University libraries in the St Petersburg-Tampa area to help him out never realizing that this was the same bully who would pretend to be me on Findlaw as well as ape my own posts in a way as to upset me as much as possible.

I even went so far as to complain to my US Representative (of Palm Harbor) about this kind of preying on people. This was while I lived in Palm Harbor, Florida. But, this man even put in a few personal attacks on me after I had moved to the Villages in 2005.

So, I can really empathize with GracieGirl and never fail to question what I put on the Internet and the impact it might have on others.

I hope people will PM GracieGirl and convince her to come back. We need her kindness and joy on TOTV.

Kind of against making TOTV a lot more transparent with people's pictures and the like because some of us have wider presences online that could cause a problem of safety and security if we started posting a lot of personal photos and the like.

If you research a lot of people's posts you can usually tell who is bullying and who is not. Of course, I could not tell who it was who was bullying me on Findlaw mainly because of how angry I became from all the hundreds of smears that lasted years. Other posters on Findaw and interested spectators seemed to get who was doing this to me for so long but they did not have so much emotion invested or spent.

Very insiteful post. I also was singled out a few years back and still have a few attacks but with current monitoring, that is kept to a minimum. It can be very painful, but I am happy I hung in there. Things are so much better now. I hope every one sends Gracie a comeback request.

Grace, I am so, so sorry you are going through such pain. Gracie was always kind and gracious towards myself....ditto for Sweetie and Helene! I spent night reading this post and TOPIX....VILE TOPIX! spent all morning writing and I lost it.....TOPIX is TRASH! I just saw that I was talked about last April (thats how long since I've been on that site!) and want to clear a few things up. It mentioned I was back on TOTV under many names. I came back as RhondaC because rokinronda was not available. I do not hide. Dear TOPIX POSTER, I had an ART yard sale I posted here....1......yeah just 1 time. Guess that was wrong. As folks read that other site, I want them to know I started MVC because I LOVED TOTV and missed it and the great people!!! (1st ban was for defending the guy who was banned for doing our movie star photos. It was such a fun time here! Then the bans were more and more frequent. Not political, not mean, just not what the owner wanted. 20-30 nice people. He told me to my face on the TOTV cruise "this is a business, I am not here for fun and games" Well ok.....BOY HOWDY!!!! Thats for you Gracie!!!! MVC was viable, kind hearted and fun for well over a year with over 250 members. But, we had trolls, vile trolls!!! Moderator job is NOT FUN! We had monthly themed parties at a rec center and luncheons. I put my heart and soul into it. I also worked full time then and it wasn't easy. It took planning, decorations, music, games, costume parties, etc... Took a summer off as many were headed north and unfortunately the .com wasn't renewed. NOT EVEN CLOSE...To my knowledge there was never any bullying. Some confuse disagreeing with bullying which it is not. A dscussion requires two informed sides exchanging viewpoints based on facts at hand or opinions.

I want no part of a board where I am required to agree and worry about disagreeing.

Political had flamers...folks who slammed the board with trite information unsubstantiated and made the entire forum a game of flaming and reporting IN BUNCHES.

Admin was correct to close it AS IT EXISTED.

To me the point is that I think Gracie will return and will not be as trusting as a result of this. The major point to me is that folks who post here on TOTV are those responsible for the vile on Topix...not strangers. As to the political forum I understand why it was shut down but most of us suffered because of a few. I also wonder how people survive so well remained friends ,etc after having spirited political debates. I listened to my Dad and his friends have knock out drag out fights over political ideology but when the shouting was over they celebrated their friendships and were sincere in their gestures. Perhaps we Americans have lost the knack for healthy political sparring?

One last point this thread explains why many of us just as soon remain a username. I had often thought about going to Crispers and meeting many of you. I am by nature a person truly interested in other people. What happened to GG is the only thing holding me back

I found the thread Topix on TOTV upsetting especially when thinking about how Graciegirl would view it, but in comparison to what I have seen on many places on the Web, its quite tame by comparison. Just look at the Orlando Sentinel blogs and posts on it about the Villages for instance. The Internet Movie Database is another place which can get rather heated.

Good post !!! I agree.....while I was upset and still am that it does not exist, I do understand the admin closing it.

The very reason for the greatness of the political (discuss an learn based on sharing facts and investigation) was totally compromised as it became like the talk shows on cable tv and radio....loudest wins....no matter the facts.

I just hope that this current situation allows folks to remember that among us are people who over the past few years have betrayed others on here and will continue to do so. First time my name was mentioned on Topix, I pretty much knew who said it....but dont ask...with no validation I am not into throwing out accusations about anyone...and took it with a grain of salt because I thought I knew who it was and it was typical. The other uses of my name, I can only guess simply because of the timing of the notes, but others have been called out on there as well. Ironically, The Topix thread had a lot of good things to say about TOTV initially.....and then a few who felt they had an axe to grind began the assault.

What was done to Gracie, is totally different, not only in nature but in scope. Nobody deserves that......I am aware that she has been visited and hope she comes back.....she always trusted everyone and I hope folks understand that she wont be that trusting any longer...I just hope she comes back soon.

TOTV was the first forum site I ever engaged in. After some time, I got this friend request from this user named ‘Gracie girl’. I accepted as I can always use a new friend even if virtual. She was my very first friend on TOTV… or any forum for that matter.

There is no question she makes TOTV a better site and I hope she finds her way back.

Gracie, I've been off TOTV for a bit and I just found this thread for the first time. Having scanned through all of the post I can say that there has been numerous statements said that I would agree with. No need for me to repeat them.

I've seen the Topix thread but have only been out there maybe 3 or 4 times. I was not only appalled by the imaturity of those children making the posts, but was also very surprised to see that even I was mentioned once in them. They said that they "think skyguy79 is one of her friends," like I was one of your (so-called) co-conspirators (to their thinking.) However, I was not upset by that statement simply because... well, it's true! I know you know how Eileen, I and the kitties feel about you and the entire family, so there's no need for me to go verbalizing it for you.

Now there is one mistake you made in your OP, and that's by saying you're "signing off from here." Yes! That's a mistake because it leaves those immature children (mentally or otherwise) laughing their body part (that could use a good swift kick) off.

Gracie, you and I have shared and consoled each other in separate incidents with a few other TOTV posters in the past that have hurt both of us deeply. But this one your going through now, well, as they say... "Boy, if this doesn't bake the cake!"

Having been through a similar situation, the lengthy time it took to figured out who the actual culprit was, (statements were made that led me to believe it could unbelievably be a friend on Facebook (fortunately it wasn't) and how I couldn't even post on TOTV until I did find out) I know it's going to take time for you to dissipate the deep hurt, but I'm sure it will, and will quicker because of so many good friends you see posting in support of you. I really, really hope that will be soon!

I'm writing this because I'm sure some of you saw my name on Topix. FYI...I only used brightspot01 and never posted under a different alias. I am still a member of Topix, to this day, but only because I forgot about it and never cancelled. I joined in November, 2008 and my last post was on April 6, 2009...a total of 18 posts...an average of 2.5 a month...and almost 5 years ago.

I joined Topix because I was banned from TOTV and a new forum had been established, mainly for those of us who Talk Host had banned from TOTV. Our purpose was to promote the new site but that got detoured on Topix.

Once on Topix, another TOTV poster immediately got on and posted some negative posts. The alias used was changed often (even impersonating TOTV Talk Host) and I was certain I knew the poster. The poster called me a bully. I probably was because the poster was very negative, aggressive, and mean (mainly on TOTV). Sadly, I lowered to the level of the poster and became very defensive. I look back and know I could and should have handled the situation better but that is now water under the bridge and I regret it.

I'd like to explain why Talk Host banned me. JohnnyM was banned and he had been a very popular poster. In fact, he made many of us over into movie stars using a special program. Everyone seemed to love JohnnyM. However, Johnny could be a little outspoken so Talk Host banned him (I never knew the specifics). Once other posters noticed Johnny was no longer posting they asked where he was. I posted that he had been banned. That was my doom and Talk Host banned me. Talk Host sent me a PM and said it was no one else's business what happened to Johnny and was between him and Johnny only. Johnny had given me permission to post that he was banned but that made no difference to Talk Host. I was gone and HE NEVER WOULD REINSTATE ME NO MATTER HOW OFTEN I PLEADED.

As for other banned members...JustSusan was a relatively new member. She is a Village Artist and her work is now displayed at King's Gallery in Spanish Springs. She has been featured in The Daily Sun often. She is a nice, low-key, honest lady. Unfortunately, she decided to tell a story about a dream she had (I think it might have been in "Girl Talk" but I could be wrong.). Unfortunately it was about trains. At the time, Talk Host was trying to sell his home in Chatham and had a problem with the noisy trains that passed close to his home. Once she posted her dream train story, Talk Host banned her, even though she honestly did it without malice (not knowing about Talk Host's train problem because she wasn't on that often.)

I could tell you other "banned" stories but I won't because this could turn into a novel. However, I want to thank the new administrators for reinstating me under my original name. I rejoined TOTV under a new alias but it never felt right. I wrote the new administrator, explained my situation, and asked for a 2nd chance to reinstate myself under my original name. He granted me my request and I'm so grateful.

ABOUT GRACIE: If I feel this horrible about the posts on TOPIX then I can only imagine how horrible she feels. I am a sensitive lady and these posts on TOPIX would have devastated me. I can't blame her for her reaction. I want Gracie to know I wrote the Administrators of Topix regarding this degrading and bullying thread. If she would like to see what I said, I will be glad to copy and PM my statement (and request) to her.

There is NO ONE who deserves to be hurt as you have, and YOU, of all people, should NEVER have to be subjected to hate and bullying. Thank you for sharing this. I also went thru the process you did. Banning in those days had no fair or consistent method to it. It does now, so like you I regret some of what I posted in those days. Due to the way TOTV is monitored today, I have sent apologies out, forgave those that harassed me, built my bridge and have moved on.
