I was here last summer, and didn't notice any odors by our postal station or pool...except from the pond behind it! (Of course, I don't live in the area that was being spoken of previously, so I can't dispute that.) I have no issue with dogs in that area, and actually love to visit with them. Peoples pets are a fact of life, and they have to take them somewhere to relax and play, as long as the owners are being responsible. I have NEVER tripped over a dog leash, something complained about earlier also. My only issue with the dogs is owners that LET them come up on to MY lawn to do their business. It is MY lawn and I have a right to have an opinion about dog waste, once you're up there. I don't buy owners that say they can't stop them. YOU are holding the leash...STOP THEM. We just need to all be respectful of each other, and this should be a dead issue.

Your statements in bold/yellow quoted above have been stated dozens of times by homeowners in other threads, and each and every time, a homeowner and even a dog lover who says that very same thing gets branded a "dog hater" and told "if you hate dogs, why did you move to a 'dog friendly' community?".

Purposely missing the point that private property is private property....

And people CAN keep their dogs off your yard, but they don't want to...apparently they fear the dog's self-esteem might be ruined. The dog rules the owner.

Most people do clean up and don't bother anyone. But there are always a few who spoil it for everyone else.

I know I am a kind, caring, respectful neighbor, and if they don't care to be the same, they can then "brand me" to be a people hater, because I will keep asking them to keep their dog off my lawn, and may have to resort to dumping my kitty litter on theirs...who knows? People walked their dogs in the street and picked up from there. I knew every dog, loved and petted them all, but NONE of them pooped on my lawn. There's some entitlement going on here that I just don't get. And quite frankly, when I was buying I never heard it advertised that this was a "dog friendly" community, like that was a big selling point. Maybe, I just overlooked that NOT imagining people wouldn't have their pets with them.

I've had to resort to very small but very obvious signs that say "Please no pets" (and yes, I know, signs are not allowed BUT which is worse, our yard with brown spots, because our dog has to answer every pee left in our yard)...I'm always amazed when I see neighbors with their dogs, going to another neighbors yard repeatedly that does not have a dog...Why, they don't let their dogs pee in their own yard, I will never know, I guess it is an act of intitlement or just disrespect....and Yes, this subject has been posted many many times but neighbors with dogs STILL don't get the message! It's frustrating! I agree with you. I don't understand why they just don't put up signs at the post office to CURB YOUR DOG and please pick it up. A sign is positive reinforcement . Helps people remember what to do.

There is a man at the mailing station in duval that walks his dogs right up to the mailboxes and he gets his mail on top and 3x now we have seen his 1 dog lift his leg and urinate all over the bottom mailboxes. This is disgusting and makes me very happy that my mailbox is on top. I made a comment to him and he pretended he did not hear me. Also we have seen the bags full of waste in the trash by the mailboxes. I do not have to tell you what that smells like in august. Unfortunately the slobs ruin it for the people that do it right.

brightspot01 - The same way a conscientious dog walker scoops the poop into a newspaper sleeve is a great way to protect your pants pockets from cigarette disposal...personally learned that the hard way after realizing too late the butts had been processed by the washing machine!!! :cus: Since that day I always travel with a snack size food saver bag or a snipped length of the newspaper sleeve [knotted on one end] for the purpose of saving my butts! ;)

No point in the doggie discussion. Just wanted to make it clear that the irrigation water is not reclaimed from household waste water. The water is still treated, just not to the same level as potable water, but only slightly less.

Keep them off of private lawns, period. Do it for the sake of the animal if not for respecting property owner's rights. You never know what may have been put on a private lawn that could be injurious or even fatal to the dog. Could happen either intentionally or by ignorance. The issue is so important that some homeowners could resort to that. Why make your dog suffer / die because you are inconsiderate? If you love them so much, keep them off other's private property, plain and simple.

I am not aware of any law that defines exhaled tobacco smoke as a pollutant which would make same against the law. Please cite the law to which your post refers - would like to carry a copy around with me. Thanks.

I guess that complaining endlessly about dogs is a pleasurable pastime for some. Unfortunately there will always be a few rotten apples in the dog-owners' barrel. I doubt the rotten apples read TOTV or care a hoot about people in general.

Unfortunately the 99% of dog owners who are responsible and respectful residents, get lumped in with the bad apples. Sadly, some good people (who always pick up after their dogs) end up being afraid to even take their dogs for a pleasant walk.

I don't believe that is an accurate statement. There are thousands of dogs in The Villages and if what you expect the case to be were true this place would be a pig sty (sp?). :doggie:

They don't "walk" in their backyard. There dog does their "business" in the backyard. When the dog has done his "business" in the backyard.......they take a walk around the neighborhood....maybe to a mail station....maybe to a park.....wherever they want.....it's their daily walk. Sometimes the dog decides that the "business" that was deposited earlier in his own yard just wasn't enough and lo and behold...he's gotta do it again. So.....the owner has a bag...picks it up...and takes it home. Nobody WANTED the pup to make another daily deposit.....nature just called. NOBODY was harmed in this transaction.

Gerryann, dog execrement is dog poop. This poster seems to believe that dog owners are backing their dogs up to the mail boxes so the dogs can poop on the mail boxes. :ohdear: Now that's a feat I'd like to see.
