Photos copied to disc

I had not looked at my camera for quite some time until yesterday and realized I had over 1500 photos on the chip. I want to copy all to discs for storage and have reservations about doing it myself. Don't know if my laptop has the program for doing that.
Can anyone lead me to who can do this for me? I not quite sure If I want to have Walmart do it or not.

No special software is needed and it is very easy to do. I would suggest you first move them to a Thumb Drive. They are inexpensive and hold a lot of data. Then you can burn the photos to CD's if your computer has a CD or DVD burner. You may wish to organize the photos first and then copy to CD's that you can label.

Also suggest you make 2 copies.
CDs, thumbdrives and harddrives can be damaged.

Thanks for the response. I will buy some cd's and a thumb drive and give it a go. Looking at my laptop a little closer I do see a slot for my camera memory chip.

Just some "food for thought"....

Many cameras are set by default to take HUGE photo files i.e. in mega pixels.
If u r lucky you set the camera for JPEG and so each file will be smaller.
If not, 1500 shots will take up a great deal of media space. You may find yourself burning more CD's/ DVDs than you wanted to. Once on board your laptop you may want to reduce the file size before storing.
The JPEG file extension is preferred for internet use and makes a descent hard print.
You should have software on the laptop for viewing and saving the files in another file format.
If the camera has a cable to connect to the laptop I would use that before pulling the memory card from the camera.

Also, no one knows the true life expectancy of CD, DVD media which are also subject
to heat and light and pen drives can be easily lost.

IMHO you may me in the market for an external drive for your laptop.

Thank you for the advice. I went to Walmart to purchase the items that were recommended and ended up having the photo department doing it. They used a DVD (1) vs probable multiple CD's because I had over 1700 photos on my memory card. Had a duplicate copy made along with index cards. I retired that card, just 4GB, and put in a new 8GB. Should last a long time for us!
