Downtown Oakland, CA recently removed all their street parking meters and installed one collections device on each side of a block that accepts credit cards and debit cards!
I think the meter readers can drive by and get a wifi signal from the collection box that tells them who's time is up.

DonnaLee, I hope you're right. Can you see 2 golf carts in one spot and the owners are duking it out as to who's goin' to put the coin in the meter????? Hysterical.
LOL

LOL I did not even think of that. Many times we go with friends and park 4 to one parking place. I would not mind seeing golf carts only around the square and cars to the parking lots.

since it's custom in tv to park at least two and up to 4 golf carts in a parking spot meters would present interesting changes.
i wonder if is there any validity to this parking meters on the square rumor?
who would "police" it, collect fares etc?

Time to think about buying a Smart Car for Village use.

Speaking of parking golf carts...I was amazed how everyone had their carts backed in and parked so close to each other...we newbies moving down...and wet behind the ears... when it comes to golf carts...do we have to go to school before we are left loose in TV with our golf carts? Is there a certain format we need to know on how and where we can park? How many carts can fit into one parking spot? Is the rule...never take a full parking spot with one golf cart? Cue us green horns in.

Sounda like someone may be trying to start some idle talk but then you never know.

If you have a 4 seater golf cart, it is suggested you back in. This will put the back of your cart over the curb and prevent it from sticking out in the street.
Also, Sumter County Sheriff's offices offers a class in golf cart driving once a month. We took it and it was very good.

Do you have to live in Sumter County to take their golf cart driving course?

I was not aware of any county having a manadatory golf cart course, now that doesn't mean that it wouldn't be a good idea for everyone to take one.

Golf cart driving is very easy and simple...You won't have any trouble down here , If you have question just ask the cart next to you....The people here are wonderful and very thoughful of new kids on the block......Any time you stop , Just pull out a map and you will quickly have a half dozen carts or cars stop to help........I know its hard to believe but just try it , you'll see what I mean....

Yes, parking meters will be delivered by the end of the month. The first one will be installed in YOUR DRIVEWAY!

My information came from a usually reliable source. (A candidate for state office) What is your source?

If you back them in (perpendicular to the curb) you can get four carts in the normal Spanish Spring/Sumter Landing parking spaces. If you parallel park you can get two - so perpendicular to the curb is preferred. When you park in a normal parking place / diagonal like in the shopping malls, you should park on the right or the left so a second cart can park on the other side. There is nothing more irritating than going to the store and finding a golf cart parked in the middle of a parking spot. It wastes a parking spot for a cart and takes up a parking spot for a car (for the cart that had to park elsewheres).

Consider this. When the golf cart arrives, cars are parked cockeyed and there is only a space big enough for one golf cart. Then, one or more of the cars departs, leaving the hapless golf cart sitting in the middle of what once was a snug opening.

If you are talking Spanish Springs and pulling your cart into the "unused" portion of a car parking space I call that a no-no. If you are talking about a parking lot, how can you be squeezed between two cars. You should have half of a whole car spot.

I tend to agree with Jan if you take the last spot and everyone else leaves you could look like a j***.

I would personally assume that that is exactly what happened. There were four carts parked and the other three left. Whether you take the first slot or the second, third, or fourth, the parking space is still full.
My biggest bitch is with the parking spots in the shopping centers where a cart parks in the middle of the parking place instead or left or right so a second cart can park there.
The same for the mail stops where cart drivers think they will only be there for a "minute". Double carts is a simple thing.

Are the parking meters another way for the corporation to make more money. Are they that hard up?
We rented a house and cart in May and found everyone very helpful with directions. It is a little scary when you first start driving around TV. That is one of the reasons we are planning on retirement in TV and the friendliness of everyone in the villages. Getting around with a golf cart and leaving the car home sounds great. Our rental car sat in the driveway for the week we were there.

I was under the impression that you could purchase parking meter tokens at the various recreation centers.

That was the talk before they built Lake Sumter. Was supposed to be no vehicles other than golf carts parked on the square.

When I first read the topic I thought it must be April's Fools Day but lo and behold it was December.
