According to The Villages on-line news, a golf cart was stolen from in front of the Publix at Mulberry Grove on Thursday evening. The owner was parked very close to the front door and was only in the store for five to seven minutes. See a photo and read the article on their website.

Yikes. One Tuesday from in front of Beef O Brady's on 466, this one Thursday from Mulberry Plaza up past Nancy Lopez and the one a week or so ago where it was abandoned closeby with it's batteries missing.
I am always worried about my clubs being taken, not my golf cart.
There was a rash of golf carts stolen about five years ago and that was found to be some villager's son, if I remember correctly. They caught him. Anyone can recall the details on that???
I don't like some more creeps coming in and stealing our secure feeling.

It would be good to know if the owners left their keys in the golf carts. Maybe embarrassed but something most of us probably have done at one time or another.

I did it Friday, eating lunch at Mezza Luna after Golf. I was worried about locking up my clubs. sigh.

Since this happened so close to the front door of Publix, chances are there will be videotape surveillance. Let's hope so.

Many carts did have ignitions with transferrable keys. Many cart owners in response to the rash of stolen carts a few years back had their ignitions re-keyed. I would have thought that cart dealerships would have picked up on that and installed ignition requiring a different key for each cart....then maybe not?
You can almost bet that if a cart is left in front of a store for only 5 minutes its a given that the keys were left in the ignition.
What I do not understand is how a cart can stay disabled for two days along side a multi modal paths and not get stolen. I mean the last time we had a rash of stolen carts the perps were pushing carts up a truck ramp and driving away. guess these guys aren't all that creative

:agree: Most if not all new carts (for at least the last 5 years) that I have observed---have custom keys. If these carts didn't have the keys in them, then We have a real "professional" going about TV stealing golf carts.
