Can anyone recommend a moving company? I have never had to use a company to move a household. We are moving from the Cleveland Ohio area to TV. Also what should I budget for the move (ballpark)? We are moving 2 bedrooms, living room and dining room. I am sure it would be difficult to gussetimate, but just a ballpark for planning....Thank you in advance.

Suddath Movers are in the Villages. Used them to move from New York. They were very good. I don't have their phone number handy but if you call The Villages they will give it to you. We interviewed dozens. Ask for Jean, she is so helpful and makes that part of the move so much less stressful. Good luck. As for price, they were comparable and reasonable. My advice, get 3 estimates and however long they tell you it takes, add at least 3-5 days!

Depends on pounds moved and distance. contact your salesperson for village discounted movers coming to the Villages

All of the above is true. We are moving from Michigan, with a shipment a little bigger than yours, using Allied Van-- best price and service out of 3 national companies contacted. Make sure to check with at least 3 movers and check the Better Business Bureau ratings for the local companies you are actually dealing with. Remember that the national companies all use locally-owned affilate companies; so you want to check the LOCAL company.
As noted above, the cost will depend on weight and distance for an inter-state move-- but also on how much packing and unpacking you want done. Ask for a binding, not-to-exceed, estimate from each company that you talk to. Watch out for potential extra charges, especially shuttle service if you live on a hard-to-navigate street and packing.
Your ballpark figure-- our cost, with full-value, $500 deductible for loss coverage and minimal packing, will be $6,000, payable by credit card.
Final tip, be sure to go to protectyourmove.gov and read the government booklet on dealing with moving companies.
Some afterthoughts:
My $6,000 figure includes use of a shuttle (normally $800 to $1,000 extra). Our normally narrow street is made even worse by snow banks on either side.
Try to get used boxes free. If you have to buy new ones, figure on spending at least $500 for boxes. Some moving companies have used boxes that they will give you free, but you may have to specifically inquire. You will also want to buy stretch wrap, packing paper, tape, tape dispenser, and bubble wrap. Figure on at least another $150-$200 for that.

We used Suddath ( United Van Lines ) here in the Villages and would NOT recommend them... They lost boxes and some of our boxes had 7 different number stickers on them instead of just one. Regarding the itmes they lost, they would replace them if we had the original receipt of what we had paid for the items and could verify what was in the boxes. They sounded good when we checked them out but when we had to deal with them after the move, it was oh,, so sorry ... I know some have had good service from them but we didn't. If you go with them, keep track of all your items/boxes when you are moving in that you get all of the boxes. They never did find out lost boxes. Our items moved from Virginia via United into Suddath storage unit for two weeks and then delivered to our house. No one could explain how the missing boxes could have got lost. We did have damaged furniture which they send someone out to fix and he did a great job of repairing the damage. My suggestion is to be careful and monitor the move regardless of who you use.

United Van Lines, they have an office in The Villages off of Rolling Acres Rd. We used them on a move from Cleveland to the Villages and then just used to move from The Villages to Virginia. Excellent service. Someone else has mentioned them and said to ask for Jean. It is the same firm. Estimates are free.

We used Suddath for a move that went into storage for 2 weeks and were very pleased with the overall experience. Jean in the office is great and so were the men.
