Today's paper had an article about three stolen golf carts. Three carts in three weeks, two from shopping centers, one from a home. I think it would be time for the developer to install video cameras on top of the shopping areas in TVs.

I wonder IF the owners of the golf carts accidently left their key in the switch in their carts. I have seen that happen several times when parking my cart next to others.

I have also heard quite a few people leave their cart key in the cart switch when they park the cart in their garage - and then leave the garage door open to keep the garage cooler in the summer.

While crime rate is extremely low here, it is still around. Use common sense!

This was a hint given to me from a cart dealer:

One can always throw the switch to the "tow" position and take their keys, if one is going to be away from their cart, for awhile. It's hard to steal, if you have to push it!!!!!

My sympathies for those who have their cart stolen, as I have had a car stolen from my home, and it's a terrible feeling, when you came out of the house, and it's not, where you parked it.

I believe the "tow" switch is only for electric carts. I would think that anyone in the cart stealing business could figure that out. Also carts are easy to "hot wire"

Ordered this (http://www.overstock.com/Sports-Toys/The-Club-Golf-Cart-Security-Anti-theft-Lock/3266443/product.html) after the second theft was announced.

I have two bicycle locks ($10 each) in my cart. One for my clubs and one to immobilize the steering wheel of the cart. I suppose both could be defeated with bolt cutters but it would be a pretty sorry thief who wants risk being caught for a 12-year old cart and cheesy looking golf club bag.

Do you think it does it's job well? Reviews are mixed.

If there are multiple carts in an area they will bypass one with a lock and take another one. However, if yours has some special feature or is the latest and greatest-if they want it they will get it-lock or no lock.

According to The Villages on-line news, two men have been arrested for the theft of the golf cart stolen from the Mulberry Grove Publix parking lot. They planned to sell the cart for $1500 to buy drugs. Read the article with their photos on the web-site.

Good!
Looking on Google maps, it looks like there is an access point into TV, along the fence line near this mobile home park. Time to batten down the hatches!

I agree that we all need to be cautious and prudent about locking our homes, not leaving expensive purchases in our golf carts, etc.

But I can see that a lot of people are becoming very fearful about security in general. And I'm sorry about that. I continue to think our crime rate is very low in The Villages. And that our best defense is to continue to look out for our neighbors, and to look out for each other.

Barefoot: :agree: Seems to be a number of people who are becoming overly concerned about personal items being stolen in TV. Really? Relative to the rest of the world the numbers are very low.

Should we be deligent---of course. Stealing "something" and selling for drugs is a large part of crime across the country today.

A year or so ago my elderly Aunt was knocked to the pavement and her purse stolen at noon in the parking lot of her church in an upper-middle class neighborhood as parishioners were leaving Sunday services. DRUGS!

Crime can happen anywhere at anytime. TV is very safe---be deligent but let's not get paranoid.

We should petition the golf cart manufactures for key changes. One key does not fit many.
I worked construction. All you need is a key.(Caterpillar,Komasuto,etc.) to start the same piece of equipment, from big shovels to little trackhoes .I once got in a car that was the same make and model as our's and then saw cigarettes (It started and I could have drove away and been arrested for grand thief auto)BS
