Some states and counties provide a property tax discount to war veterens and some to all veterens. Do any of these counties, Sumter, Lake or Marion support this?

The discount isn't huge but it's something for us vets.

I pay property taxes on our Jersey homes and it averages about $ 1,000 off each properties annual tax bill.

Something to think about.

Hey bubbalarry, do you by any chance know Larry and Debbie Frakes from the New Jersey area? I went to school with Debbie and haven't seen her since graduation, just thought I would ask. Larry is in the insurance business and they own rental properties on the east coast as well.

Name rings no bells.

In the State of Florida, if you are 100% disabled, you can get total relief from property taxes. When my husband was given the 100% disability, we didn't know about this (he died and I didn't know about this until about 20 years after he died). If we would have filed for that exemption, it would have carried over to me as long as I lived in that particular house. This is something I would definitely look into if you have a 100% service-connected disability.

Bubbalarry-- You started this by asking about veterans discounts, I take offense on your last post. SOME of us VETERANS are disabled and the information given here can be quite helpful.

Do you feel that you are only a true VETERAN if you served in the armed forces and are NOT disabled??

Well said, Pete. I, too, am a disabled veteran (retired after 20) and have the additional 5K exemption added to the Homestead Exemption. Only helps a little bit but everything is welcome. Right, Mate?

Bubbalarry, there is no property tax break for non-disabled rated veterans here in this area. Sorry if you could not read between the lines when people started telling you that disabled vets get a break here.
