Leak in garden irrigation system

a rogue plant has caused a small leak in an irrigation pipe

bearing in mind the water pressure involved, is it possible to fix this oneself?

Does Lowe's or Home Depot have some tape or similar that will do the job?

Simple dig it out about two feet in length, get white PVC couplers (2) a 24" of 1/2" or 3/4" pvc pipe, primer and glue.

Cut out the damaged part splice in new with two couplers.

Tape is not a good fix and will probably continue to leak.
You can google "repairing pvc pipe" to see how its done the correct way as Jimbo suggests.

Bearing in mind that the last time I attempted something that was a "piece of cake" it ended up involving several emergency teams, Mrs Fox has suggested I call in the professionals.

Lowes and Home Depot both sell a quick fix piece for this exact problem...not sure exactly what it is called, but you just cut the pipe where it is broken, remove a small piece, and slide this on with glue on both ends. It compresses, then expands. Hard to explain...you will figure it out when you see the device. I have used it here and it saved having to dig up several feet of yard to expose more pipe.
