We will be moving to the Villages and Direct TV has a free moving package has anyone had experience with this? Does Direct TV install or do you have to get an independent contractor, I believe they refer to them as System Operators.

Direct tv installs it for you. suggest you resist if they want to put it on the roof. they can usually find a place on the turf without putting holes in your roof. If you want the discount for a new account, you may use my acct number when you sign up. they give us both $10 off for 10 months...acct 64716565.

Moved to Gilchrist, new home, 2 weeks ago.
Decided to go with DirectTV - had them in another house and pleased.
Checked into Cable TV etc etc - $$$ and had to get bundles to get the best price.
DirectTV (from the Co) came out to install. I did NOT want the dish on the roof, and not in the back of home. Desired on the side next to AC unit and elec. Luckily, even with the house next door - mounted on a pole about 5' high right where I wanted it. The install Rep said almost all TV DTV installs are on a pole. IT DOES cost more - I think $80, but worth it in the long run IMO.
DTV is great - have the whole house Genie DVR...excellent.

Don't pay extra for a pole mount. Insist that they do a pole mount. Roof mounts are not permitted unless all else fails.

I told them I wanted mine wall-mounted, near the pool pump and heater. I even wanted the wiring to be run thru PVC pipe. I bought the pipe and U-mounts from Home Depot and they were completely cooperative in making a very clean and neat looking install, with the dish on the side of the house, where I wanted it. I even bought them a larger, steel box for the wall, more convenient for them and better looking than the small plastic ones they normally use. I think it would be even easier now as the dishes they're using are smaller than a few years ago. They don't need to go to either a roof or pole mount here in Florida because the azimuth of the satellite is far steeper than it is from northern locations.

We had Direct TV installed when we closed and have been very happy with them. They wanted to do a roof mount. I thought fast on my feet and told them "it wasn't allowed per HOA rules". They never questioned it and installed on a pole in the back yard. Actually I was concerned it would void the warranty on the roof/shingles if they had installed it up there.
