Whoever posted they have decided where the new publix is going and have started construction, please stop and tell the manager of the the publix in colony. I work there and asked him today and he said he hasn't heard a word about it.

OP, I've not seen on TOTV exactly where Publix is going to build---just a rumor that somewhere down around Brownwood. I could have missed the post too.
It would make sense that they would build another store---the colony Publix is so busy that some are making an effort to go elsewhere even though Colony might be closer.

Ask the cashiers - they know - I think he was pulling your leg.

Check out the plans for Grand Traverse Plaza at Brownwood. They even have the sign design with Publix taking up half of the sign. The Bids were needed to have been submitted by last week.

Making sure shelves are properly stocked and creating work schedules are the responsibility of a grocery store manager. Site selection is the responsibilty of a whole different department.

Why is Publix so popular? We like Publix but just wondering why?

I like Publix for a lot of reasons....always friendly staff, excellent return policy, well stocked and good selection, great pharmacy, and more, but my favorite is they are a FL company and carry a lot of local, FL produce! My pet peeve with them is they recently incorporated the organic produce into the conventional displays. It used to be easy to just go to the organic section and shop from there. Now you have to go up and down all the produce aisles and find the organic.

Good selection, competitively priced (against other large grocery only chains), I generally like the layout (set) of the store (although the reset of Mulberry stinks!!), clean and well lighted .... a big deal for me is that the deli and bakery depts are much, much better that WD, Sweetbay, Albertsons (although I think they are all gone in Fla now) and Wallyworld ..... only Fresh Market comes close to Publix's deli & bakery.

Manager at Colony is too busy counting the money they are taking in ! He does not have time to know.

The reason nothing has been published in the paper is they want to announce other tenants, not just report they are opening up a plaza with one store albeit the anchor. Only the developer knows if other stores have been signed up and ready to build. Yes publix store managers do average 6 figure incomes and get a nice quarterly bonus based on sales and stock divedends twice a year. I work 18 hours a week, sometimes 24 and get the inventory bonus. It is also based on how long employed.

The father of one of my oldest friends (as in friends from 1st grade until today) spent his entire working life in the employ of Publix.
He became a Produce Dept Manager, where he remained for his career. He was well paid and did not want the headache of management beyond that level. He invested modestly but consistently in the company's stock program and thanks to Publix's growth and several stock splits over the years .... he retired a VERY well off millionaire.

It is probably one of the few jobs where you can start in high school and if you can stick out the low pay to start for some years, can end up a millionaire if you get into management and by that i don't mean you have to be a store mamnger. Publix gives you a share of stock for every x number of hours worked plus what you purchase on your own. When i started their stock was $100.00 a share but then split 5 for 1 for 20 a share. Went down to 15 when they purchased the albertsons but now back up to 26 a share.
