Seems like in Florida, a large percentage of TV advertising is law firms looking to sue anyone for anything, or get disability for half the population. Some even have catchy lines like "if you fall, call'. I expect to see one soon that says, if your neighbor farts, call us!:pepper2:

It must be working, or they wouldn't be doing it.

just look at the number of lawyers in the yellow pages. Then note the number who spend for television advertising. One can only conclude there are many, many more who do not advertise.

They must be working on volume.

These "Gold Digger" ads are not limited just to Florida! It seems to be a growing trend. We have a home in Georgia as well as the Villages and we are inundated with these type ads there as well.

There are way too many law schools graduating way too many lawyers. You know why? It's profitable. Too bad.

Anyone else remember way back when lawyers weren't allowed to advertise on TV?

I read an article a while back that when the 2008 recession hit, many many college grads could NOT find jobs.
So, what did they do?
Go to grad school.
And law school seems to have been a popular choice.

I don't watch TV so I listen to the radio a lot and I'm tired of hearing all the advertising by lawyers. Actually, it's mostly one in particular but I won't mention his name because he might bring a law suit against me. If he wins one big judgement, he can afford to do a lot of advertising.

If a lawyer and an IRS agent were both drowning, and you could only save one of them, would you: 1) go for lunch or 2) read the paper?

Although, I must say, I had a really great lawyer before I moved to The Villages.

It was considered bad form for Doctors to advertise too.

Some of TV Lawyers advertisements kind of say things like we can help you get your disability claim through.....with the unspoken words.....even if you aren't disabled.

I know this is possible because I watch Judge Judy.

"You know why? It's profitable" Cause they write the laws so they make money regardless at taxpayer's expense, after all it's only Government Money which has the printing press and who runs the Government "Lawyers" for the most part. One change that would put big dent in that is? IF the loose they pay all costs. And of course stop the endless appeals of ax murders (you know the ones that went crazy just for an second, So I'm crazy and I get off! Daa even more the reason to send them to death row in A HURRY not 25 years later). Now shall we get into divorce lawyers?:crap2: The longer the fight the mo money for the lawyers! So it's win win for Lawyer's. I once heard finding honest lawyer was like seeing blue moon three time in month:pepper2:.

I can remember when they couldn't advertise and even though they can now I still think it is in bad taste.

I tried some of these big firms for legal representation and other stuff quite a ways back and remember that instead of trying to help me out they suggested that what I was trying to so was illegal or that my case was worthless because I was still alive and kicking. This was when I was trying to bring in everyone I could think of to put pressure on libraries of all kinds to get a link to the Florida Victim Services Directory. The Florida Bar had taken the opposite approach and had announced the availability of the Florida Victim Services Directory online. This was in one of their publications.

I had been trying to sue a psychiatrist for malpractice back in mid 2002 and most of the Florida attorneys I contacted wrote that basically I had not suffered enough harm for them to make money on a suit. I did find an Illinois law firm which had a branch in Tampa, Florida that sounded like it would have taken the malpractice case but they seemed to have another agenda than mine.

I do not know that many lawyers now, but the law students at the University of Minnesota, for the most part, seemed like they would have made competent professional attorneys. Guess there are always exceptions.

You wonder how good these fast food like law firms are?

Within every profession, there are good people and there are less than stellar people. To make disparaging comments about an entire profession is unfair.

As a retired lawyer I remember those days well and fondly. The whole advertising phenomena in the law business only made a lot of money for the phone book, radio and TV ad sales folks and later on internet advertising sites. It also got new lawyers and very average lawyers an instant identity and visual presence in the community that they did not have to earn by establishing a reputation for providing good legal representation. The problem was and is "the squeaky hinge is the one thats gets oiled". Unfortunately slick advertising is not a service to the community. "Word of mouth" is the highest and most reliable factor in choosing a lawyer or any other service professional.

Thanks for your comment. I always found that the folks who criticized lawyers the most were the first one's to call after they felt their rights had been stepped on...just saying.

Like me and 50% of my Class at the University of Minnesota Law School in 1989. Remember that Top Tier schools like Harvard, Yale, Stanford, etc. usually have Bottom 50% too as would the Lowest Tier Schools. The University of Minnesota was ranked about 17th in the US according to some of the Rankers in 1986 when I entered. And, a lot of law school graduation standings depend on how well you did during the First Year of Law School. That's when you make it onto Law Reviews or not which give you access to Law Review student cribs and the like. I made an incredibly dumb choice in friendships that first year which seriously messed me up as far as GPAs are concerned. I did a lot better as soon as I found some more honorable friends during the second year. And, I worked through law school and my priorities were my clients at the Legal Assistance to Minnesota Prisoners and then the WESTLAW cataloging project I was involved with a the cataloguer of all the WESTLAW databases for a national set of computer files. My law study came third.

It is rather creepy, and we noticed the same phenomenon when we first moved to FL a few years ago. You get the sense there are a bunch of sharks swimming around in the pool waiting to rip into something or someone.
