Another Linda:

To me, that whole beach village attack was a 15 minute recap of the Vietnam war; it was like it was written in Hollywood by John Wayne and Elmer Fudd.

I personally water skied the Mekong River and had to stay on the near side bank because the other bank was VC territory (and deforested by Agent Orange) and dodged floating mines doing it - water skiing; swam in the Saigon Headquarters command recreational pool and stayed off the high dive platform because of the VC snipers. There was a rec center golf course where some of the holes were off limits because they were VC territory - who could make this up but Hollywood?

Brandon De Wilde was critically injured in a traffic accident in the Denver suburb of Lakewood on the evening of July 6, 1972, while en route to perform in the play, Butterflies Are Free. Swerving to avoid another vehicle, he struck a construction trailer parked on the side of the road, and was pinned under the wreckage of his motorcycle for some time before being taken to Denver General Hospital. He died four hours later. He was 30 years old.

Interesting information, Chuckinca. On a sunnier note, which stars have people seen in plays like this. I mean where you can get a good look at the person performing and are not in a very large auditorium which kind of detracts from the personal connection to the performer? I remember seeing a 10 or so year old Christian Slater in a performance of the Music Man in downtown Reno theater which was not all that large as such theaters go in bigger cities.

The boy was Brandon DeWilde. He was cute, alright. All the movie quotes are good. I'd like to add although it doesn't apply to the subject, one I loved was from a James Patterson audio book, which title I can't remember. If anyone remembers it, it was originally spoken by Will Rogers (I see his image on this Forum):
"Never pass up a good chance to shut up". The way it was spoken by Keith David was with perfect expression.

I see 'ol Roy's face and the deadpan delivery of that line has to be the best when he said, "We're gona need a bigger boat!" Jaws

I think the quote was "Have you ever picked your toenails in Poughkeepsie?" But I'm not sure.

It was "picked your feet in Poughkeepies." It was completely ad lib by Gene Hackman. He realized that the kid he was questioning was not acting scared enough, so he made that up as he went along. The kid was so surprised by the deviation from the script that he had a "terrified" look on his face.
