Hello,

I hope I'm in the right place to ask this question. I'm considering moving to The Villages or Stonecrest. Before I make the track across country to check both places out (I'm from Oregon) I would like to do as much research as possible. I've been reading a lot of different subjects about The Villages but I can't seem to fine a Stonecrest website. So my question is does anyone know of a online newsgroup or forum where people from Stonecrest share ideas?

Thank You,
Steve & Ryzel

If you do a search for Stonecrest, Summerfield, Florida you will have loads of information come up, but this is one site Stonecrest Active Adult Community (http://www.topretirements.com/reviews/Florida/Ocala,%20FL/Stonecrest.html) and there are many others. It is a nice retirement community, fully gated, just north of where The Villages is located.

I am in The Villages and have no other information on Stonecrest for you, but maybe one of our Stonecrest neighbors will see your post and give you more information.

You really have 2 choices to make regarding a " Retirement Communities " .

A) Del Webb, Summerfield Fl. vs. Stonecrest. I moved from Del Webb to the Villages and I am familiar with Stoncrest.

You will without question get more house for your $$ in either of these two communities compared to the Villages. Now which one ? Del Webb is by far the Superior of the two, Del Webb had two builders ( Del Webb/Pulte ) Stonecrest ( Multiple). The Reserve fund @Del Webb is Ok, Stonecrest ? uncertain. The Community @ Del Webb is much nicer than Stonecrest. For multiple reasons.

Now Stonecrest is closer to shops/stores/the Villages, than... Del Webb is located approx. 5 mi. North of Stonecrest, and approx. 10-12 miles from the Villages.

Both Del Webb and Stonecrest are in the true sense of the word " Retirement Gated Communities " there is absolutely Zero comparison between either of the two with the Villages. As I mentioned you will get more house for the $$$$ than the Villages ; But...and it is a huge But...you really need to compare that particular environment to the Villages.

In the Villages you are buying into a " Lifestyle " nice Homes, lot's of choices, a ton of choices to make regarding your time...so many things to do so little time.

We moved from Del Webb almost unheard of, and we wish we had made the move much sooner, house prices have gone down their and really have yet to recover, where as here in the Villages they continue to go up in value.

In the Villages the Variety of choices are almost endless. The smart choice is:

1) Check out both Del Webb and Stonecrest, talk to people look into the " Transition " at Stonecrest between the Developer and the HOA. The HOA @Del Webb is already well established but talk to the residents.

2) Then check out your opportunities @ the Villages here you buying into a " Lifestyle " retirement. In the end you will come to a conclusion that really suits your taste.

Thanks to all that has replied. I appreciate the added information!

I'm still hoping to find a forum like this one for Stonecrest but it's not looking good.

Thanks!

OP, there are a number of Stonecrest residents on TOTV----or I know they use to be. I believe some maybe left (can't say I blame them) when the gate was put up that some used to access The Villages.

I'm a bit surprised that you have not received a comment from a Stonecrest resident.

Stonecrest is very close to The Villages. I understand you can access The Villages with a Street Legal golf cart from Stonecrest, however, most drive the short trip in their cars. You can drive your golf cart to several small shoppes and two big box stores---Walmart and Lowes from Stonecrest.

You might also want to look at Spruce Creek South as it is very close to The Villages too.

Good house hunting. Personally, I always try to remember that life is not permanent and neither is a house or a particular location.

Good point about decisions not being permanent.
