How fertilize when you have rock

Do you put the fertilizer on top of the rock and water or do you move the rock and put it on the weed mat and water? How does the fertilizer best get to the roots?

Just use those fertilizer sticks and push them in close to the plants.

The people who fertilize for us put it on top of the rocks. It gets watered in.

I put it as close to the base of the plant as possible. Usually no rock or matting there. No sense wasting it pouring it on the rocks.

My guy from Bates throws it on top of the rocks and it sits there - we are switching to a new company in June. Go figure.
