Priority membership break even calculations

I posted this math on another post but thought it might get more viewers here. If this is incorrect I'd like to know.

Cost for priority membership for all or 4 clubs:

12 months = $925 couples $740 singles
6 months = $740 couples $590 singles

Trail fee (that is included in Priorty membership) = $132 full year or $99 half year)

Average Cost savings for priority member vs resident member on all clubs is $10 ($5 in summer, $10 in fall and $15 in winter)

Average full year savings per round = $10 ($5 + $10 + $15 / 3) per player.
Average snowbird savings per round = $12.50 ($10 + $15 / 2 ) per player.


Full year break down

For Couples:
$925 - $132 (trail fee) / $20 (average savings) = 39.65 times or .75 times per week to break even.

For Singles:
$740 - $132 (trail fee) / $10 (average savings) = 60.8 times or 1.17 times per week to break even.

For 6 months the payback is longer.

For Couples:
$740 - $99 (trail fee) / $25 (average savings) = 25.64 times or .98 times a week to break even.

For Singles:
$590 - $99 (trail fee) / $12.5 (average savings) = 39.28 times or 1.51 times a week to break even.

Here's what my calculations show:
This is for two of us playing once every week (using an average of fees of all champ courses) and for fall, spring and summer rates, through next Oct.

As a priority members we would pay $3078 for the year. Ave $60 per week
As non priority members, we would pay $3182 for the year. Ave $59 per week

I also calculated it leaving out the two most expensive courses (Lopez and Palmer), which we don't play anyhow and it dropped to $2938 ($58/wk) for priority and $3052 ($58/wk) for non priority. Not a big difference.

Calculations bases on priority fees for all courses ($925) minus executive trail fees ($141) which we pay anyhow so I left them out. And all figures are for teetimes in the afternoon (less expensive).


Russ, I don't think you can average the savings like you did because the summer season is 23 weeks x $3, the fall season is 11 weeks x $10 and he winter season is 18 weeks x $15. Total savings for the year are $449/52=$8.63 per person.

Unless I have overlooked something, these figures might be right.

So in summary, can we say that a priority membership is worth the price if a husband and wife both play a championship course at least 52 times a year? i.e 104 rounds of golf on championship courses is the approximate break even point.

chacam - You probably play more during the prime times anyway which is the times that the membership saves you the most money. So any calculation needs to bring that into account.

I think it is fair to say that if you average 2-3 times per week during fall and winter and once a week in the summer you will make out with the membership. Both in terms of real money and in terms of perks (tournaments, tee-time advantage, extra pools etc.).

I gather from this that the total cost to play any TV course whenever you want (maybe 365 days a year) for a couple is $925 for a year.

The $925 per couple is for a full year membership that allows priority tee times, some extra pools and takes off about $10 to $15 per round in the prime months.

There is a rate for non-resident; does that mean that the courses are open to the public?

I've only visited but i think that all courses are open to anyone.

Chuck, priority membership only gets you a discount off the regular greens fee, cost to play championship courses 365 days a year would be more like $9,000 - $10,000 per year per person.

Anytime I have had guests come in from out of town, I needed to get them a guest pass for the duration of their stay. You need it to make a golf reservation and it has to be shown when you check in at the course. At least that has been my experience. :dontknow:

There is a rate for "Resident Guest" and "Non-Resident" which implies that the person isn't a guest of a resident?

Is a "Resident Member" different than a "Resident" and why not a Resident Member Guest

Resident member is a Villager who did not pay to be priority
Resident guest is a Villagers guest with a guest ID
non-resident is someone off the street.
