Background checks on renters

Could a bad background check on a potential renter allow a landlord to refuse to rent to the individual with that bad report?

Do any long term rental landlords have background checks done on potential renters?

You should always do a credit check for potential long term tenants. Here is a site that I use. Tenant Screening | Employment Screening | Mortgage Credit Report| CTCredit (http://www.ctcredit.net/)
The fee (about $25) is passed on to the applicant. If they refuse to pay the fee or won't provide the info for the check, assume their credit rating is poor and move on.
