I'm on the bus to Orlando airport in the shuttle..a NJ resident, here for the first time, stayed here and said for an extra $30, you can get your sheets changed. They offer sit down breakfasts daily...... A FROZEN jimmy Dean sandwich and Danish.... Also frozen. You eat in your room. They charged his Amex before he. Necked in for the full week..how can it be??????? What a dump..
Experience, anyone?

Sounds like airline pricing. Where is Hacienda Hotel?

Unfortunately, if you had asked on this forum where to stay I'll bet nobody would have recommended that hotel. The Holiday Inn Express sits right next door to it. A much better choice for sure. Sorry you had a tough time. If, in the future, you want to know anything about The Villages, there is also a search button at the top of the forum page. Just click on it and put in what you are searching for such as "pace to stay or Hotels" and the info will come up. Another hotel not to stay in is the one behind Chili's on 441. I believe it is a Comfort Suites. It's a real dump. I already checked it out. Please come back and visit again. The hotels here are much better than that!

We stayed at the Microtel on 441. They have suites which consist of a bedroom separated by a half wall. The half wall is the kitchen with a sink, Fridge, and microwave, plus cabinetry. On the other side of the wall is a living room with table and 2 chairs. Very nice for the price!

I always check out hotels on Trip Advisor - Reviews of Hotels, Flights and Vacation Rentals - TripAdvisor (http://www.tripadvisor.com) before I plan a trip. They have never let me down. Trip Advisor ranks Comfort Suites as #1, Microtel #2, and Holiday Inn Express #3.

Do they charge by the half hour?
Clean sheets might be a wise choice.

I don't judge hotels by their 'free breakfast'.

I remember in the old days we would get a customer complaint because they didn't like the way the chicken was prepared. never mind that the flight was flawless. it left on time and arrived on time with the luggage intact but all that mattered was the rubbery chicken! swore they would never fly us again.

As always, "you pay for what you get". TripAdvisor online always has good customer reviews.

I had a friend come in for a weekend needed to find a place for him to stay. I took a look around the Hacienda Hotel and immediately crossed it off my list. It doesn't take much to know that it's not going to be very good.
The first clue is that it's very difficult to find the front office. When you do find it you discover that it's a hotel room.
The place just looks dirty and not maintained.

Stayed there in 1996 when it was owned by the Villages. It wasn't bad then.

Actually, we used to stay at the Comfort Suites when we were looking for a place down here and loved it. The rooms had comfortable beds and the staff was very nice....always said "Welcome Home" when we got back from the squares.

I can recommend Microtel also but a little out of TV. We usually stayed at Holiday Inn Express before living here and enjoyed it.

It was once the " BATES MOTEL " complete with the swinging light bulb and in the background was " Mother " in her rocking chair.

I am amazed that this hotel is still in business.

How can they get guests to stay?

Or return?

I never heard of this place.........................

I had never heard of it either and we stayed five days at the Holiday Inn three years ago, very nice place and only cost us $79 a per day in April. The actual name of the motel he is referring to must be 'La Hacienda' at 1201 Avenida.

On 'Trip Advisor' the very first reviewer writes "The hotel itself is a convenient location. Close to shops, restaurants & golf courses. The employees are friendly. The rooms need to be updated. The carpet was rather dirty & the furniture & drapes are old. Housekeeping could be better. The tile outside the bathroom where the sink is was VERY dirty. We spilled water on the tile & wiped it with a towel & the towel was black. You could also feel the floor was sticky. We did not use the pool but it looked clean & was a nice size. Also the ice machine was broke. If they renovate this hotel I would give it 5 stars."

My brother works at La Hacienda Hotel, so I asked him about the complaints raised in this thread. He provided the following information. La Hacienda is a small, 30+ year old hotel which can't compete head-to-head with newer major chain hotels like the Comfort Suites and Holiday Inn. Their niche in this market is a less expensive alternative without all of the frills. They have a daily rate which is almost half of the cost of the chains during the season and which does come with daily housekeeping. For those that want to save even more money, they also offer weekly and monthly rentals at substantially discounted rates. These come with limited housekeeping services, similar to renting an apartment on a short term basis. The hotel only offers a Continental breakfast (which is not uncommon) because it would add to the room rates. It also doesn't have a dining room for "sit down" breakfasts or a kitchen to prepare and store the food. When booking a room at any hotel, ask questions to determine if the hotel offers what you are seeking.

Also, the guest rooms have been remodeled (except for the office).
