The Paradise Gate is broken again. This is the third time since it was installed that it has been broken.

Why do you think this is happening?

It's broken in the same way as the other 2 times. It look to me like someone just forgot to stop and ran into it. It sure must have done a lot of damage to the cart if so.

It is slooooow to open in either direction. Probably drivers are misjudging the timing and swipe out the bars on the gate. I can't see anyone doing it deliberately and damaging their cart.

Gates are broken every day in TV nothing unusual.

Gates are broken every day in TV nothing unusual.

And many of the same gates are knocked down several times a day....

Kinda strange this seems to happen during the winter months and it costs "our" amenity fees to fix this insanity !!!!

That's true. The gates at St. James (coming and going) have been broken... well, I can't count that high.

License plate-type I.D.s for golf carts!!!!!!!!!!!

No gates are broken all year long. Trust me I'm here and travel around TV a lot it's my hobby. Slow down and wait for the gate period. I wish they were the kind of gates that would disable a vehicle instead of the break away type we have now. And for those that don't know it you can get an additional gate pass from the district off instead of driving up there and pushing the red button and getting annoyed the gate doesn't open right away. I wait till the gate goes up. Then I go through. Obey the street signs @ this areas of entrance and exits.

That's a heavy duty gate too. I sure would'nt want my cart hitting it. It's like those hollow plastic column thingys they put on the paths. They bend over like a cheap suitcase. If they were filled with sand or concrete I bet they'd ring your bell if you hit them then. I'd bet you'd only hit it once.

For people who don't know what they are talking about, the Paradise Gate is unlike most gates in The Villages. This one is much stronger and would cause much more damage if ran into.

The lady in front of me ran into the outgoing gate around 10 am this morning. I think she just went too early, scraped along the gate and had to back up. Her left turn indicator was then on most of the way to Aldi so I think lack of attention to her driving was a contributing factor.

Of course, I got out of my cart, shouted abuse at her then wrestled her to the ground, as one must do in TV to maintain our reputation for cart rage...

I suspect another Stonecrest invasion. The Villages would do better to put the wall back up or have community Watch stand guard:1rotfl:

I have been told by more than one person, that Stonecresters take great offense to the constant verbal abuse that is regularly spewed here every time some Villager damages a Gate with their cart.

Why the constant abuse. I have said it before, "the Villagers are their Own Worst Enemy". No need to speculate blame on very nice people, that have no need to use Village Gates.

There is a camera there.
Wonder if it really works.

Rubicon, I did see the joking symbol. I apologize for the comments, but I am tiring of hearing some of my Stonecrest friends complain for being the butt of these regular jokes. They really don't deserve it.

Thanks for your consideration. Nice jokes are always welcome and fun to read.

I have a solution . . . . .

Get rid of the damn gates and we won't have any more problems!

Why do I get the feeling you don't own a golf cart or at least rarely drive one? Those gates are about the only thing preventing many accidents between car and cart. Try crossing at some of the streets when the gates are open and cars can just go through. Next to impossible unless someone in a car stops and lets carts through, which creates a whole other set of issues.

Happening because people want to get to Paradise sooner rather than later!

Sorry, Redwitch, but I do have a golf cart which I do use.
I find that even where there are a few cars waiting to go through the gate,
it really isn't safe enough for a cart to quickly zoom in between the gate openings.
Most of the time, the gate does not even completely close before it re-opens for the next driver.

The onus is on the golf carts to stop and wait until it's safe enough to continue on, no?
I always stop to let the carts go through as a matter of courtesy.
Reading your take on this seems like auto drivers could be a little nicer.

I agree with Redwitch and Gracie and would be very upset if they did away with the gates. Why? Because they help manage the merging of cars and carts, they do have eyes on all who pass through them, they provide a obstacle ; albeit a temporary one for those who have need to flee and they provide a psychological benefit. the benefits far outweigh the problems
Short of restructuring this as a true gated community it is the next best thing.
