What Features Must I Get?

I'm about to get serious about buying a cart. I plan to buy a gas cart. Nothing against electric carts...honest!! I'd prefer to leave that debate out of this thread. :pray: I'm just interested in finding out what are considered by most to be "must-have" features. I might buy new, but possibly a late model used.

I'll be in Ocala tomorrow on unrelated business and I'll be stopping at Carts and Clubs to take a look at what they have. Folks in ToTV seem to like them pretty well. I welcome any advice you might have, but like I said, mainly I don't want to buy a cart and then realize I've missed something really important. :smiley:

This forum is just for Frank and folks asking Frank a question.... the rest of us will get deleted...

Don't give them a hard time... a lot of people make that mistake and post in the Ask Experts. It's not so bad.

Although the comments above are in the wrong area of the forum I must agree the suggestions are good but here are some others.
Gas gauge
Seat Belts
Speedometer
Side marker light package.
205/65/10 wheels & tires.
12 volt Power supply
Comfortable Seats
Drink cooler
Upper front shelf
Mirrors with signal lights in mirror.

make sure you get the big square side mirrors on the outside and a large square/rectangle center mirror inside.

An overhead storage shelf came with our cart and it turns out that it is a fantastic thing. You can stash purchases up there or mail or whatever, and it is out of sight. Also, a cargo bag for the back is used for everything.

Enjoy your new (or used) cart. You'll never regret getting those few little extras.

good set of well aimed headlights, bright rear brake lights, directional lights (self canceling is good if you can get it) or something visible in cab so that you know they are on. - comfortable seat!

From what I have seen you will likely add-on if it does not come that way:
Speedometer - Lockable dash bins - A rear seat? - Side curtains - Gas gage is
nice but it is easy to see how much gas is in the tank - an AC outlet to charge your
cell phone is real handy - Good side mirrors - Turn signals are a must.

Check the Villages before you buy from a dealer. I got a fully loaded cart at a reasonable price and it was fairly new.

Extra comfortable adjustable bucket seats for longer distance travel, and because you are choosing a gas cart, insulation in order to cut down on the heat of the engine.

A bright paint job---you need to be seen by 50,000 drivers.

If you are using it for golf, two sand bottles and club cover for rain.

Don't "skimp"----a good cart will last for years. Have fun and good luck.

All the above are good suggestions. I particularly encourage large tail lights.

Seat belts are a must in my opinion, particularly for the passenger. I have seen passengers lean forward to reach for something in the glove box or on the floor and almost tilt out of the cart. There have been injuries from people simply falling out of carts with no collision involved.

The taller seats (called Ultimate) it was hard for me to reach the accelerator with the regular seat. I am 5ft4in. My husband no problem. With the ultimate seats I can easily depress the accelerator

Personally, I didn't want a speedometer because I didn't want to be looking at it.

I know when my peddle is to the metal(plastic floorboard), I'm going 22.5 mph which is just fine by me.

You should have a decal or colors of your favorite team and a urinal for sanding your divots. Two golf bags are mandatory and you must practice having your left knee hanging out. Large people usually choose the smaller carts. If your hair is long, it is time to get it cut into a golf cart friendly style.

I like the 1 piece windshield. No bar in the line of site. No cost difference if you get this while ordering a new cart. 2 upper storage trays, never enough storage.

Definity go to Grandpa & Grandma's Villages Buggies, is on 441 a little north on the left of the 42 and 441 intersection. They have both new and some rehab ones. My sisters that have lived here have bought several carts from them in the past 12 years and would not buy from anyone else. Good luck

inexpensive add ons for clock, temperature and compass.


We LOVE having a four seater and a two seater so that when the family comes we can carry almost everyone. The last ones in get strapped to the roof. ;)


Have not wanted or needed a fan or a heater. Like full size rather than some of the custom small carts with doors, especially if you play a lot of golf. Too crowded for two men generally.

oh yes, one more thing...
did you know that most carts do not have a unique key?
My guess is that most times on the planet when a cart is parked it's not available to the public, so the maker doesn't bother to give you a key that only operates your cart.
the key to the glove box is better than the one to the ignition.
