Hi All,

My dad (lives in Village of Pinellas) is in DIRE need of a great orthopedic doctor to help with his ailing hips/knee and rotator cuff.

I looked on the medical discussion boards but am really desperate, so am also posting here, hoping that all of my friendly TOTV'S buddies can help us out.

Please let me know any doctor recommendations that you have so we can get ol' Tom H. all sewn up and back to lovin' the Villages lifestyle!

Thanks so much!

Angie - when I read you post I thought one of my children had posted. My husband has the same issues, but we are learning you probably have to get several doctors involved. We are going to Dr. Duke in Ocala for the knee, not sure about the rotator cuff at this point. Depending on the severity you probably want a specialist treating each area. Just a thought and good luck.

Dr. John Cowin of Florida Musculoskeletal Institute.
He has an office in Lake Sumter Landing.

He is very complete in his approach to an ailment. Very conservative will always exercise any and all options before considering surgery, unless of course the condition warrants immediate surgical intervention.

He is no nonsense and has a friendly demeanor. I have used him the 10 years we have been here for hip, knee and spine issues.

Good luck

The Orthopedic Institute in Ocala. Also in Gainesville.Improving Lives, Everyday - The Orthopaedic Institute (http://www.toi-health.com/) Excellent surgeons and they don't keep you for hours in waiting room beyond your scheduled appointment. Can't say the same for orthopedic group that has offices in Leesburg and Lady Lake.

healthgrades.com is a good place to get an overview of doctors under consideration.

I'll add to Dr. Peter Mulhern. He was my hand and knee doctor (and neighbor) in Ringgold, GA before he moved his practice to TV and will be if I ever need him when we get to our home in Pinellas full time (September 2015).

He is not knife-happy and fixed both my hand and knee without surgery.

Dr. J. Dean Cole, Fracture Care Center, Florida Hospital off Princeton in Orlando. He is the one doctors go to.

Asking around for advice on competent Drs. is wise. There aren't many incompetent ones but there are! Not just Othopedic either. Ask around like you are now. Personally couldn't help with this line but could for other lines.

If I'm not mistaken, Dr Duke has done either over 4000 knees, or 6000 knees. I would think that is impressive!!

Dr Duke did my total knee April 1, and I'm up and around with no walker or cane. He has done over 7,000 knees and hips and is at the top of his game. Remember doing your rehab faithfully is a huge part of a successful conclusion.

My rotor cuff is so bad that I need a double reverse shoulder replacement. I saw where Dr. Mitchell was recommended for the rotor cuff tear, I am new to TV and need a good orthopedic surgeon. Thanks!
