We had a corner at our home that apparently was getting lots of cold air whipping around it as we had three different Queen palms die there. So we replaced that corner with a Mule palm. It is a cross between a Pindo Palm and a Queen Palm, and cold tolerant. It looks great, even after this cold cold winter.

We learned after losing ours that Queen palms are really not suitable for central fl. It gets to cold here in the winter and they will not survive. My neighbor has sylvesters and they are supposed to do fine for this area.

Nice choice. IMO Mule palms are beautiful.

I do love the Mule Palm. Since they were recently engineered they are a bit pricey. We also have a Canary Island Date Palm.

A good landscaper would have told you which palms are suitable for this area. We used McGowan's and now have 2 Mule Palms and 2 Sylvesters.
