One balloon will go up every hour for a prize drop. You can pay for a ride in one of the 5 balloons, Scooter the DJ will be there all day, food trucks, vendors, sky diver at 10:30 with the huge American Flag, presenting of the colors by the DAV. One Blood will be there collecting blood. Expecting 5-6K people throughout the day. $15.00 per Vehicle holding up to 4 people allows you access.

This should be interesting. A Hot Air Balloon Festival in The Villages?

A few years back Ken Creely, Director of Golf at The Villages, sent very strong letters to all the balloon pilots in central Florida warning them that they shouldn't fly over the golf courses in The Villages or he would report them to the FAA. Ever since then, none of the area "balloonatics" (endearing term for the pilots and crew) will launch or land anywhere near The Villages.

So when the balloons launch at the polo fields for this festival (remember they are not steerable), I wonder how they will prevent themselves from flying near the Saddlebrook, Hawks Bay, Laurel Valley and Stirrup Cup Golf Courses to comply with Mr. Creely's edict?

I also want to know how Creely got ownership of the air above the golf courses.
Does that mean I can write to all the airlines and tell them not to fly their planes over my house?

This I gotta see.

Well written two thumbs up. Who is this guy Creely ? And by what authority has he got to Ban " Hot Air Balloons " over certain areas. Sounds a bit like a Dictatorship to me....hmmmmm .....:bigbow:

Those balloonists are fascinating to watch, but they can be full of hot air. Incidentally, if you've never ridden in a hot air balloon, give yourself a treat and try it. It's a wonderful experience.

From Wikipedia - "A common tradition among balloonists is to have a champagne toast upon landing. Legend has it that early French aeronauts carried champagne to appease angry or frightened spectators at the landing site."

It worked to soothe the anger of landing area residents in 18th century France. Will it be enough to win over Villages golfers and homeowners in 2014? Gracie, why are you making the bed sheet into an LZ (landing zone) "here" sign? :1rotfl:

A few years back, a balloon landed near a yard on the 9th hole of Riley Grove. I thought I heard champagne corks popping two blocks away. Funny thing, to the best of my knowledge, my great party time neighbors thought it was cool. :coolsmiley: On a slow day, most of them will celebrate the growing of grass as well.:a040:

Where I came from, The Adirondacks, we had an annual hot air balloon festival at our local airport. The airport was small, only prop planes or small private jets could land there due to space and a small runway. We had 100 balloons partake with many thousands of people watching. Weather permitting, these balloons, some in special shapes (cakes, dogs, houses) would inflate and take off all in about an hour time span. The crowd cheered every time a balloon got up on the air. The colors were glorious and the energy of the crowd was infectious. To see the balloons launch as the sun came up was spectacular. They are a thing of beauty and the pilots are skilled and friendly. We had 4 days of this festival and I never grew tired of watching the balloons lift. I never went up in one because I'm afraid of heights. This festival occurred every September. I sure do miss it.

Found this information on their web site. Jamboree in Paradis is the balloon rally at the polo fields.
The Villages Rotary Evening Club and Combat Veterans To Careers regrettably have made the decision to cancel the Jamboree in Paradise scheduled for 3 May due to unforeseen circumstances.

The planning committee apologizes for any inconvenience this decision may cause as we value your support of the charities that were beneficiaries of the event. We will be working diligently to reimburse immediately those who paid to participate.
