Do you have a local 352 phone number? I am not certain but I think anyone with a 352 number gets the alerts.

That is too bad, our local number (aka 352) is not capable of receiving text, however, both of our cell phones with another area code can do this. I hope there would be a way to send these type of messages to cell phones.

You don't have to have a 352 number. We received these alerts in Ohio on our cell when we lived there....about alerts HERE.
You don't have to have text. They will email your email address and you will hear a recorded message of what is happening; bad weather, lost older person, bad person on loose etc. Just go to the fire station and sign up. You will get the messages on any number and any kind of phone. Sometimes all of our phones ring at once.
This is a very helpful service. I THINK it is called code red, but not sure. They will know at the fire station.
