Maybe I am over reacting but I don't feel that the purpose of this forum is for a business to post positive reviews of themselves. Certainly a business could post it on their own website but I feel it is appropriate here. Talk about blatant self promotion.

If they are a paid advertiser, why not?

Yes, you are correct that they have the right to do it as a paid advertiser but I think most people use this forum for unbiased information and recommendations.

Agreed. Most advertisers seem to use restraint when tooting their own horns. A little goes a long way.
Perhaps better judgment/restraint by others is in order. Overdoing is a big turnoff. Just MO.
OTOH it's easy not to open their posts since they're pretty obvious.

Talk of The Villages is not owned or affiliated with the developer. The source of funding for the site is the sponsors/advertisers. One of the benefits to being a supporting advertiser is being able to promote your business.
What is really inappropriate is when a business registers on the site with a business name and ignores the multiple notices regarding not self promoting unless you are a paid sponsor of the site. Those businesses try to benefit from the site without contributing to the cost while other businesses are.
