View Full Version : Caravan of Stonecrest Golf Carts

Late Friday afternoon i saw five Golf Carts from Stonecrest (had stickers on the carts) go through the gate (The Wall) off Paradise, each handing off a gate pass in order to get in. This is not fair where I pay amenity fees, and those people steel the rights of the villagers. Petty thieves they are.
I told the Gate keeper on Boon, he could care less that they come in.

The Paradise Gate should be staffed with Villager Volunteers in official looking logoed golf shirts to check on Villages ID cards of those coming through that gate. Since that is a private trail, treat it as private for Villagers only.
The non-Villagers who attempt to come through that gate could legally be denied access to our private cart trails and sent back from whence they came.
:crap2:
Personally, I disagree with most of you.
I am an 8 year Villages resident. But if Stonecrest residents want to come here - FINE!
What's the worst thing they do. Add a couple carts to our cart paths or take up a couple seats on the square?
If the rec center people are doing their job, only Village residents should be enjoying the rec centers.
Almost everyone that enters the Villages from anywhere adds to the economy.

Reasonable people can disagree. I don't see this as a problem. Nice residents from Stonecrest coming to TV spending their money----I don't care if they drive their cars or golf cart or fly in!

I've got an idea - leave your house key under the mat. I'll use the key to look around in your house and then pass it on to some of my friends so that they can look around also. Don't worry there won't be many of us and we're all nice people. Better yet, just take the lock off your doors. After all, we are America's Friendliest Hometown!

While I can agree that the StoneCrest folks are nice people, I find it is a violation of principle. If the gate was for everyone's access there would be no need for a gate card to open it. Using a gate card that does not belong to you is not honest and violates the purpose of having a restricted gate. If you are using someone's else's card, you know you are violating the intent of the gate and technically you are trespassing.
Our streets are built and maintained with public funds ; therefore, they are open to the public. Our MMPaths are built and maintained with the funds of those living in TV.
It's not complicated

What happened to "the friendliest town in Florida"? I think they went away once they reached that population goal of 100,000+.
Really too bad that people don't realize what difference does it make if they come to the Villages via golf cart or car or boat or plane and spend money in your city. Advantage point - money in your city.

Most of The Villages residents reponding to the OP couldn't even find the Paradise gate without a map, IMO.
This entryway had not been a problem for the past few decades until the developer got his knickers in a knot because of who knows what. If he was afraid the assisted living facility was going to take advantage of TV, he should visit an ALF sometime.
IMO, it is better to have five golf carts visiting, than five cars taking up space. Stonecresters are having the last laugh, and Villagers hate to feel duped.

Who really cares??? what damage are they doing??? I can't imagine the small amount of traffic they will subject the paths to will make any difference one way or the other. Sorry, guess that are several that really
care and I don't mean to dismiss your feelings. I just don't understand why it is a problem.

I think there are two thousand residents with probably close to that many carts.
I think we have enough golf cart traffic with the card carrying villagers and enough traffic accidents.
And Janmcn. The wall and subsequent gate was placed at that time PROBABLY because Sumter Inc was going into negotiations in a few days with Fruitland Park and they didn't want to have to allow that area golf cart access. They couldn't argue that case with the other end open. My guess is as good as yours and probably more favorable to the developer because I like big business.
Most villagers do not try to breach the gates of Stonecrest illegally. Just sayin'.
No ticket. No laundry.

Janmcn: You make a great point about cars taking up more than twice the space of a golf cart. IMHO this whole issue is "much to do about nothing."
It was most likely some lawyer that caused the "wall" to be midnight built in the first place. In the words of the great philosopher Forrest Gump, thats all I've got to say about that. I'm gone---watching Bay hill Tournament.

You have no legal authority to do what you have just suggested. Matter of fact you could be arrested for assault if you physically detained any one for not committing a crime. Life's not fair get over it.
Just like a ticket-taker at an amusement park checks for valid tickets and turns those away who are not properly ticketed. No one said anything about physically detaining a person.
The trail going through Paradise Gate is private property and if a person does not have a valid Villages or valid guest ID, they are trespassing.
That is the legal authority.

Some issues just ring true. Take for instance the belief that if player steps out of the batters box his average goes down.
Take for instance if you ignore one violator pretty soon 1 becomes 100, then 1000.
Take for instance that you must pay to play but Stonecrest people were told they had better homes, true gated community and use of The Villages Lifestyle without paying.
We are not yet at completely built out and based on the months of February/March 2014 crowding is becoming a real problem
So I think this is a very big deal and I so want the wall back up.

Thank you - those were my thoughts exactly. How many people are we talking about? Less than 10 more than 100. Will they really make an impact on our seams that are already bursting???
As far as "if you like The Villages" move here maybe they only like to come to a movie or have dinner or shop and support the merchants, but don't want the rest of the lifestyle. If that is the case I am grateful they are bringing a cart and not a car cause there is no room on the roads and even less parking.

Well here are some facts. There are Villagers that have given cards to their friends so they can use the gates. Some have access cards because they own rental property in the Villages. Some have purchased Street Legal Carts and cross over without using any gate. Once across 441/27 you can go just about anywhere. If we have friends that want to go we just rent some carts and go riding around.

It's not a matter of how many. To me it is a matter of right is right, wrong is wrong. If you are not a TV resident, then it is wrong to use this gate. If you live outside TV you are welcome to come here by public access. I think if I were "sneaking" into a community, I would feel guilt. It is all a matter of principal. You can't be a little pregnant and you can't be a little wrong when doing something that you know is wrong. Coming into TV by means other than public access is wrong and those doing it know that it is wrong. One person, 100 people..that is not the point. We do not get to decide which rules we need to follow. I have nothing against Stone Crest residents. I doubt that using the gate harms me personally. I do know that the gate has a purpose and we do not get to decide if we like that purpose. Maybe I don't seem to feel the need to stop at a red light. Many don't. Maybe I don't think I need to pay income tax. Many don't. Maybe it's ok for me to throw my trash out of my car window. Many do. As you said, what's the harm? I just don't think we get to decide which rules we abide. Many talk on this forum about some having a sense of entitlement. To me this is just one more case of some feeling entitled to something that they are not. Where do you draw the line?

The original gate never had card access either. It was just an arm that was broken more then repaired. It was just a loop sensing gate. You drove up it opened. The arm was broken for years. Then all of a sudden some one removed the entire mechanism. There was nothing for at least 2 years if not more. Then the wall, then the controversy, then the arguments, then the accusations, then the new card access gate. before the wall no one cared, no one complained. All were happy in the kingdom, Some one kicked the sleeping dog and he's been a grouch ever since.

You draw the line where you personally feel uncomfortable. Some of us just tolerate more stuff cause we don't see the reason for the rule - some of us can't believe someone would have the balls to jay-walk. That's what makes the world go round. We all have our own levels of tolerance and we see these exhibited day and in day out on TOTV. I just thank my lucky stars I live in a country where I am not thrown in jail for an infraction of some rule. Sigh. I totally agree that Stonecresters, et al., should not have unauthorized access to TV rec centers, swimming pools and golf courses. I have absolutely no objection for the riding their golf carts on our streets (which are public property and they pay taxes to maintain those streets just as we do). I understand that some of you take issue to "outsiders" using the paths which are not public property but, personally, I don't see it as a major issue and is far outweighed with the money they spend at the Squares and stores surrounding TV.
I hate, loathe and despise that gate. It has caused way too many bad feelings and dissension. It just ain't worth it.

Several people have mentioned putting up a wall to prevent Stonecrest residents from coming in here. I wonder if they realize how residents of the historic district use that gate to get to Lowes, Aldi, Walmart and the many other establishments over there. There are also people who use the urgent care and other medical facilities over there.
I agree that no one should be using illegal cards.
I don't know if there is good reason to keep Stonecrest residents out of the Villages or not and I'm not overly concerned about it. But, I would be concerned about the inconvenience caused to so many of the Villages residents.
If I'm not mistaken some residents from the other side of 27/441 also use that gate to get to those facilities as well.
They (we) have been using that gate for 30 years. To have it suddenly closed off would be unfair to many of our fellow Villagers.

If the rec center people are doing their job, only Village residents should be enjoying the rec centers.

There has been more money thrown away on that gate then any benefit that will come from it being there. Its been broke once that I know of, the initial cost of installation, continuing maintenance, electric cost, future repairs, all for what?

I have met the nicest folks who live in Stonecrest since I moved here over 5 years ago. Unfortunately, I've got to believe that none of those who I have met are posting here on this or previously related threads.
I'd love to roam the streets of Stonecrest in my golf cart. Can anyone over there get me a gate pass? Better yet, just leave the lights on and the gates open.
I know what I paid for when I purchased in The Villages and never expected anything more (especially for free). I guess I must have been an informed buyer. Never once did I even consider looking for a way to work around The Villages Residency Requirements while living in a neighboring community.
Time to wrap it up. Good night.
